I-TEAM INVESTIGATES WHY MAN (illegal) CHARGED WITH DWI WAS RELEASED ON BAIL

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The federal agency ICE is defending a decision not to place a detainer on an illegal immigrant who was charged in a DWI hit-and-run accident over the 4th of July weekend.

Twenty-three-year-old Efren Perez-Roblero posted bail and was released from the Wake County Detention Center on house arrest.

Roblero is accused of driving without a license, getting behind the wheel intoxicated, and fleeing the scene after the crash Friday night on Buffaloe Road.

ABC11 learned that two years ago, Roblero was deported back to his native Mexico.

Wake is one of only five sheriff's offices in the state that can detain an illegal immigrant. ICE agents are stationed at the Wake County Detention Center in addition to deputies. Agents opted not to place a detainer on Roblero and he was released.

"ICE reviewed Mr. Perez-Roblero's case, and consistent with guidance issued by Secretary Jeh Johnson in November 2014, determined he did not meet our current enforcement priorities based on a lack of prior convictions. ICE will continue to monitor Mr. Perez-Roblero's case until the current criminal charges are adjudicated," said ICE spokesperson Vincent Picard.

DeShawn and Trazjae Moss were seriously injured in the collision. The couple was hit head-on heading home from a date night. The victims said they're baffled Roblero was able to post the $75,000 bond and walk out.

Jennifer Quinn is outraged as well. She was one of the bystanders who chased Roblero into the woods when he took off running.

"As soon as I turned my flashlight on into the bushes, he was staring at me," said Quinn. "I could smell the alcohol. He was definitely drunk."

She helped restrain him until troopers arrived.

"It feels like I've done it for nothing. I mean he could have honestly had a weapon and hurt me, and for him to get out a few days later, or even the next day, that is ridiculous," said Quinn.

Court documents show Roblero was going 72 miles per hour in an area zoned 45 and traveling the wrong way. A trooper said in the arrest warrant he had "red glassy eyes, there was odor of alcohol coming off his breath, and couldn't stand on his feet."

Roblero is on electronic house arrest. For the second day in a row, ABC11 stopped by his home on Foxhound Drive. Nobody answered the door and a car wasn't parked in the driveway.

"He could have killed someone," said Quinn. "He should not be out of jail. He should be in prison if you ask me."

His blood alcohol level is not known at this time. Highway Patrol says the testing is being done now and it could be a month before the results are returned.

Roblero's next court appearance is scheduled for July 27

Always with the hyphenated last names.

A Freeper said (some time ago) that they did this to confuse computer search algorithms, to increase their chances of not being identified with their prior criminal records.

Homeland Security is changing it’s name.

The last name in the hyphenated name is traditionally the maiden name of the person’s mother.

Any American doing this in Mexico would never see the light of day again. Here he is released and given favored treatment. This is justice? How about the same treatment in Mexico?

#Black lives don't matter as much as illegal aliens, evidently.

$75K bond, woa, where did he get that money? Oh wait... Reading the comment section on the article the typical liberal talking points come out about illegals paying taxes, not collecting welfare, being in the US on an expired visa is not a crime, blah, blah, blah. What the liberal did not say is the illegals children that are born here are US citizens and entitled to welfare, food stamps, housing, etc....

ICE is baffled, absolutely flummoxed...

Americans are collateral damage on the road to fundamental transformation.

Mowing the lawn this morning, he’ll be a senator by next year, and with a little help, who knows? Perhaps president in 4 years.

It's the two family names of the mother and father. I once assisted some Border Patrol agents in the apprehension of a dope smuggler. I called to get the name for our records and the last names were Meza-Meza. We both went "eeewwwww" over the phone laughing about it.

The names are useless with these people because they use so many aliases. The best thing is to take a full set of electronic prints and a picture. Ten prints, classified simply by type, are usually enough to immediately identify.

As far as this case goes, ICE Enforcement and Removal have had their hands tied by the Administration. Obama and his people don't even allow previous deportees to be deported unless they have a serious criminal record. It can be quite frustrating when the subject of your case is a known MS-13 gang member, in the country illegally. Instead of spending thousands of man hours working up a case for new charges, law enforcement should be able to boot these people out immediately. Those that return should face hard labor.

A retired Wisconsin State Trooper, told me that on occasions, illegal’s would be picked up, turned over to ICE, and then witness the ICE agents release the individual instead of processing them for deportation.

Tell me again how ICE is SUPPOSED to operate versus how they actually DO operate.

They are supposed to process all illegals for immigration court proceeding, or offer voluntary return, or file charges. It's all in the Immigration and Naturalization Act.

What your acquaintance in local law enforcement was doing was cleaning out a problem from his community. He probably didn't turn over every illegal he ran into, but repeat customers got turned over to ICE.

ICE policy in some of their operations was already messed up. I had a friend that worked criminal alien enforcement in LA. They rounded up Mexican gang members all day, but they weren't allowed to touch the rest of the family, even if they were illegal. If I was setting the policy we would round up the entire family and deport them. Raise a gangbanger, get deported.

“Roblero’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 27”

Yeah, sure it is. The Judge might as well sleep in that day.

And that right there is the REAL outrage in this whole thing!

Does any government official in this whole sordid process think he wouldn’t FLEE?

The reporters even proved it by going to his house—nothing but crickets already.

No justice, no peace; innocent Americans paying the price for Liberal “fairness” and Chamber of Commerce “cheap labor”.
