Whataburger Revolts Against Texas Open Carry Law

Atkinson’s letter comes after Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a bill that made it legal to carry a firearm openly in Texas.

The law, which gives private property owners the right to prohibit open carry, was hailed as a victory for gun rights advocates who have staged high-profile rallies at the Alamo and Texas Capitol over the past couple of years. Some even brought military-style assault rifles into businesses as part of their demonstrations, prompting the Chipotle restaurant chain to discourage firearms on their premises.

“He just is uncomfortable with open carry in their restaurants.”

Yeb. He is just an idiot. He is a “I support the Second Amendment, But” type. Guns in his restaurants are ok, unless someone has the guts to admit that they have them.

It is his right to make bad decisions. Too bad his employees and stock holders will suffer.

He is going to lose a lot of business.

Open carry of handguns is and has been illegal until 1/1/16. Concealed carry of firearms is legal with a license in both restaurants and bars that are either not 30.06 posted or 51% TABC establishments. /

In Colorado licensed concealed carry of firearms is legal in restaurants, bars and liquor stores.

I have a Mosin sniper with correctly numbered PU scope I haven’t fired yet.

I also have a M1944 (Chicom Type 53) picked up in Vietnam. Got a flash hider/brake for it but not fired with it on yet. Without the hider there is a huge orange muzzle flash.

Guns should be made of only two things: blued steel & wood. Yes, I am that old.

;^)

The 53 is a carbine so big flash but the full size has almost no flash. The Russian rounds are really carefully calibrated for that long barrel.
You’re lucky to have found one with the PU scope, they seem to be really rare!

The focus on the brouhaha of Whataburger case should be the one statement:

“One thing that makes people less uncomfortable around guns is being around guns.” Also on “and other Texas restaurants are expected to follow suit.”

First, is there proof with the first statement or just a couple anecdotes specifically chosen by the restaurant chain CEO Preston Atkinson?

Second, other restaurants expected to follow suit must have found it making business sense for them, too.

Third, why is this important? Because if we don't speak out and/or vote with our money, eventually we will end up with the Oregon bakers fiasco.

So, if a ‘glbtq’ were to open carry in to a whut-a-burger, could they sue if they were denied service? Or would they be smacked with a trespass charge. Weird that a citizen can get charged with trespass but someone coming across the border illegally, not so much. Anyway...............
