Key Republicans distanced themselves on Sunday from presidential candidate Donald Trump's denunciation of illegal immigrants from Mexico as rapists and criminals, saying he has become "a wrecking ball" for the party's ability to win Hispanic voters.
Announcing his candidacy last month, Trump accused Mexico of sending rapists and other criminals into the United States. He later added that illegal border-crossers from Mexico were carrying "tremendous infectious disease".
Numerous companies have cut ties with the billionaire real estate developer over his comments.
"At the end of the day, for us to win a national election, we have to do better with Hispanics," presidential candidate and South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham told CNN's "State of the Union" program.
"And for us to have the moral authority as a party to govern a great nation, we have to reject this demagoguery. If we don't, we will lose, and we will deserve to lose."

Their support helped Democratic President Barack Obama win re-election in 2012. Most illegal immigrants in the United States are Hispanic.
Graham said Trump had "hijacked the debate" over immigration policy, adding: "I think he's a wrecking ball for the future of the Republican Party with the Hispanic community."

Key Republicans —————Governor Jeb Bush (L) and Senator Lindsey Graham
Hehe!
From the GOP-E that stands for nothing and fights for nothing other than to keep themselves elected.
What’s key about Linda and Flounder?
..fixed.
Linda Graham is NOT a key GOP candidate.
He polls about 1%.
Jebbie and Grahamnesty. Well, we know who Rooters thinks are “key” Republican candidates, as if we need any help in knowing who the weasels are.
...the KEY Republican candidate is backing Trump on his comments....
LMAO!! Linda Graham is far from a “key Republican candidate.”
Trump, for all his other faults is doing this country a service by forcibly dragging the issue of illegal aliens into the light. Had this not been the case, the recent killings by illegals in SF and Washington state would’ve gotten minor mention by the “media” with no connection to the fact these are FOREIGN criminals.
They may be running but in the end they will be trampled by the crowd.
No one wants their children to end up living in Mexico, even the Mexicans - why do you think they come here?
The Democratic Party could be dismembered on this issue. There is no support at all among the older white Democrats for mass Mexican invasion. Trump will end up getting those votes too.
The so-called “elites” in both parties have almost no power relative to a guy like Trump. They are beggars and bagmen, he’s the guy with the gold.
The hissing campaign against him will go nowhere. And the networks? He could either buy one or start one.
Either way, if this guy is serious, he’s got The Issue of the Century and they don’t.
Run from the citizens rage at your refusal to secure the borders and enforce the law.
The GOP exists today to prevent the citizens from stopping The Cheap Labor Express.
You forgot Kaskich and Pataki.
Just as we’ve come to expect, it’s power over doing what’s right.
Rs were put into power with nearly unprecedented wave elections [two] and have done nothing. Nothing.
MM says it’s too hard - and he is lying. It may be hard but he and JB are enabling 0bama with their cloture votes and rules votes. Do they think we don’t know?
They’ll be embarrassed forever when they find out we know.
Third party historically is a loser. This time I’m not so sure. There are people of all kinds who want America to be great again. They cut across political, ethnic, racial, and income groups:
Legal immigrants don’t want illegals.
Blacks don’t want illegals.
Whites don’t want illegals.
Working class people don’t want illegals.
Americans don’t want illegals.
It comes to mind... who does want them? Mexico doesn’t. Honduras doesn’t. El Salvador doesn’t want them. Just who is it that does want illegals?
Well said.
Let the Uniparty roaches scurry away when Trump shines a light on the illegal alien invasion problem created by them. I would expect nothing less from them.
And both of them would place Mexico’s interests above ours. They actually support an invasion of the US.
Latinos are so in the tank for The Democrat party—none would vote Republican if you ran an illegal for president. In a bizarre way more legal Mexicans might vote Trump—they respect a strong leader who speaks the truth.
ILLEGAL Immigration!!
They always leave out the illegal part.
Should we have run from Reagan playing with a monkey?
