We have them in Eastern Iowa also.
I give them gift certificates to fast food restaurants, or tell them about the various free shelters in the area. Most scream and curse me, a few were very thankful and asked about the shelters.
I have talked to people who offered to take them next door to buy them a meal. They declined.
