Subway has been struggling for some time, its health-oriented campaigns falling flat with consumers....

Subway is a privately held chain and does not post its profits. But according to the market research firm Technomic, sales dropped 3 percent in the U.S. last year, or around $400 million. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.....

"Low fat does not equal weight loss. You’ll never see a skinny person pushing a grocery cart full of low fat food. "

Correct. When they remove the fat, they replace it with sugar. All you have to do is read the labels. Low-fat versions of items are always higher in carbs than the full-fat.

I like Subway sandwiches. It’s an affordable meal my husband & I can get a pretty satisfying bite to eat while we’re getting our shopping done. - Jared is innocent UNTIL and UNLESS proven guilty. - I don’t begrudge him becoming a spokesman for Subway & making a living at it. (He was at home when the authorities came by his home & took his computer stuff & it appears from photos taken at that time that he cooperated with them & participated.

They went Political for the left wing Obama team, and then they are surprised when I wasn’t the only one that quit eating there?

Subway sucks. 90% of their sandwiches are fluffy bread.

I might be tempted to think Subway is nothing but a huge money-laundering operation.

That would explain how the mooch got involved...

Potbelly is good and serves only muscle meats - turkey, roast beef, ham and pulled pork.

“I was going to point out their alliance with the Mooch, as well.”

I thought they also had bowed down to Muslim demands to make pork free establishments, as well. Another reason to avoid them.

Trust me, the company received some sort of benefit for kissing Moo’s butt here.

Subway is known as a predatory franchiser. That is, they sell a franchise, then cancel the contract on the flimsiest of excuses to re-sell the franchise.

There are all sorts of horror stories about them.

With the Mooch, they're probably pulling a Budweiser (a la Jessie "Shakedown" Jackson, the Baptist) with some of Moo's pals to make any DOJ/FTC investigations go away.

having visited several times the loading docks of a very large frozen food warehouse distributor and seeing all the Subway stuff.......bread, egg thingies, ham and turkey, all frozen board solid to minus 22 degrees, the Subway concept of fresh is a joke

but, the companies real problem is greed....... over expansion into holes that generate no profit

Much like McD’s Subway needs to find a way to update without losing their identity. They were the cutting edge of quality fastfood, but the field has left them behind. The sandwiches are still pretty good, but they basically taste the same as they did 20 years ago and the situation has changed. And their attempts to get away from the same old stuff are failing, the flatbread pizza were inedible, their guac is terrible. Really they probably just need to improve the ingredients, elevate themselves to full deli quality.

Well, it could be because their quality and prices have gone to crap over the past decade (plus), and people have figures out that they can get a better sandwich at a better price from any neighborhood deli.

...or pack a lunch

Where do the marketing geniuses in these companies come from?

San Francisco & NYC?

Hollywood?

That would explain a WHOLE LOT!

The Subway I go to has had the same owners for over a decade. Only one time was there an ongoing problem. Every time I went in they were out of Roast Beef because someone didn't thaw it out. A letter to the owners of that store {not the corp} got that fixed ASAP plus a few free sandwiches. It never has happened again. I either get Roast Beef {Yes it is real roast beef where I go too}, Turkey, or a Bacon sandwich. The bread is always much better than what can be bought at any grocery store and best of all "I" get too choose what goes on it. They're a 100 times better than MickeyD and 1000 times better than Bugger King in my area.

My experiences with several {same owner} Subways have usually been positive. One was a few blocks from the hospital and earlier this year I got a foot long sandwich there just about every day. The workers began fixing it without me even having to say what to put on it LOL. One afternoon my daughter went there for me and when she began telling them what to fix they asked is this going to a guy coming in here from the hospital? LOL.

This is the truth I did not otherwise change my eating habits during that time and I still snacked and ate breakfast. I was on a diet. I lost 10 pounds in nearly a months time. Potato chips can be eaten but I bought baked ones and a Diet Coke. The bags of chips they sell are not the big Grab Bag ones but ones aimed at about 130 calories and it was that way long before Obamination was elected. Store ownership has a lot to do with quality of food and quantity of meat.

If anyone ever went into processing plants they'd never want to eat meat again. I know where the meat for Krystal and White Castles used to be processed. I say used to because it's been about 27 years ago I worked there a few days. I have no idea where they are processed at now. By processed I mean the ground beef put in the machine and comes out square tubes and cut. A small company in Knoxville did it actually for Krystal and White Castle. After working there a day I didn't want another Krystal for over a year. Same with sausage I worked for a company that serviced walk in coolers for stores and restaurants. One of our big customers was a sausage processing company. A day working there you didn't want sausage either. This one had a bad reputation by contractors who had to go in there to work because a bunch of half wits in the kill room threw pig parts at you. OH BTW that company at the time processed most of the areas sausage under several different labels. Yeap even for up your way LOL.

Just about any restaurant {yes even the upscale ones} or places handling food have some sort of issue at some part in their business. I've worked on restaurant equipment and have seen a lot. Some Mom and Pop stores were the cleanest and some high dollar you're eating here to be seen by others was not so great out of public view. The maddest I ever got though was at Burger King years later. A ketchup drenched burger, frozen fries, and a drink with an extra fly laying in it. All in the same order at the same visit.

Be thankful Subway kept their temps on their food low. They spared people from getting food poisoning. That is the number one issue in handling meats, raw egg products, etc is keeping consistent temperatures in the safety zone. That is usually one of the biggest "HITS" county health departments see on inspections. In Tennessee BTW state law requires those scores be posted in public view at the business location.

I’ve never been asked if I want my sub toasted at Mike’s...

but I’ll defer to you on Jersey sub quality. I live in NTX and it beats much of the competition...

I pulled a reefer (refrigerated trailer) for many years. And you’re right, temp control is crucial.
Not only at the production plant, but also in transit.

The two best companies I pulled for required drivers to keep a temp log of the reefer set temp and actual temp readouts.
One company required drivers to log set temps and a manual reading from the rear of the trailer.
Most companies only “required” a set temp at loading.

I made several deliveries to a business in, I think, NY state who made burger and sausage patties for fast food restaurants.

After talking to the site manager, I never again ate sausage from McDonalds. 48% fat content.
Their burger patties were nearly as bad.

The manager told me the *only* fast food restaurant he let his family eat at was Hardees, based on the ingredients in their patties.

That was about 10 years ago, so things may have changed.

The wife and I eat out once a month.
We patronise a local pizza parlor owned and operated by an actual Italian.
The best pizza in the world!
His calzones and Stromboli’s are excellent as well.
You can stand at the counter and watch him slice each ingredient for your order.
