She messed around with a bloke named Smoky
She loved him though he was cokey
He took her down to Chinatown
And he showed her how to kick the gong around

You’re sixteen, you’re beautiful and you’re mine

In some states sixteen will get you twenty...

That is why it is a "crime song" :-)

... and did you play your records on one of those stereos that looked like a suitcase; had the speakers on each side and the turntable in the middle when you opened it up? Mine was blue... My parents bought it for me: at times I think they regretted that decision... I know my neighbors did.

That’s true- not sure why, unless Pitney liked the movie, too and wrote the song afterward...

Would "Theft and Destruction of Pastry" be a crime?

If not, recording this might have been, with all due respect...

The song refers to “old men playing checkers by the trees.” A few years ago, cops in the Rampart area, where MacArthur Park is located, arrested some men in a doughnut shop for illegal gambling—they were playing chess, which the cops, unfamiliar with the game, mistook for gambling.

Howdy, EGC! (((hugs)))

All is well here. Having a nice weekend off. Hope you and Bo have a good one, too. Did y’all enjoy the visit of your brother? Did you take him to the lake?

Enjoyed the visit with the brother. The vet has advised me not to let Bo get into the water until next Friday due to an ear infection. Giving him some medications.

Thanks, but I don’t like the way Willie changed the melody there. I prefer this original version:
