South Carolinas governor signed a bill Thursday that will send the Confederate flag to the states relic room. The decision was made more than 50 years after the rebel banner began flying at the statehouse in Columbia to protest the civil rights movement.
Governor Nikki Haley praised lawmakers for realizing that the long-celebrated symbol is too painful to keep promoting.
The Confederate flag is coming off the grounds of the South Carolina Statehouse, Haley said. We will bring it down with dignity, and we will make sure it is stored in its rightful place.

It wasn’t on the State House. It was in a little diorama park in front. Big f’n deal. You can’t steal our heritage- because it is your heritage and history too. Maybe we can get back on point on something really important, like eliminating crystal methamphetamine, and 9th grade dropouts who think they are “cool” killing Christians.
This is SC, pretty proud lf its contribution in the war of northern aggression and I expect there will be political payback.
i’ll be looking to slap some stars and bars bumper stickers on a Prius
Doesn’t matter. The Dems and liberals in general are doubling-down on everything now, because they know that the political backlash in 2016 is going to be momentous. That is, of course, if we make it to 2016 with our country intact.
With all of the liberals moving here and bringing their politics with them, and with the republican’s help, South Carolina will be solid democrat in a few years.
Yeah, I don’t think this issue is going to set well with the voters of SC.
We will see in the next election how many of these legislators are still in office.
I do think this was one of the correct procedures for doing this, though...let the people, by their representatives, decide.
Another way: a direct vote of the people.
My guess is there was pressure, tremendous pressure, by so-called Civil Rights groups and Big Business to do something. This was done behind closed doors, not out in the open.
Nikki Haley avoided a Mike Pence situation—think Indiana’s Religious Freedom Law.
I don’t think Pence did the courageous thing by FOLDING like a cheap tent—don’t get me wrong.
Just trying to figure out how this happened in such a rapid fire manner.
No one is talking about how the murdered reverend voted on the flag (he voted to put it near the monument where it currently flies, IIRC)....no one is talking to black citizens who think the Stars and Bars are a symbol of heritage, not hate (they do exist)...and no one in the MEDIA is asking “Where will it stop?”
Pretty sad in that respect.
Suddenly, I flat can’t stand Nikki Haley.
Will Affirmative Action end of Monday then?
Will Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton retire on Monday too?
Gov. Nikki Haley is on the warpath to destroy our history. Her action reveals she is in sympathy with the far left. I would take Ted Turner over her. And she is sending a sick message. Her kind of politicians pose a real danger to this country.
Nikki is such a disappointment.
Lizzy Graham likes her though.
With this one issue she has redefined herself.
May I offer up my complete confidence that this will appease those ... that make the demands all near and far .... My name is Chamberlain!
the media says I’m a Conservative since my name is Chamberlain ... but I’m a liar and know the media lies ... Light my Fire!
Wow, guess they raised the white flag.
But hey, that was the last official flag of the Confederacy, so well done! Lol
As Conservatives, we have to remember that States have the right to display or to not dispay whatever flag they please, unless of course the friggin ACLU, or anti Christian groups complain and threaten to sue for whatever stupid reason they cite.
I have a battle flag that has been folded neatly in my desk drawer for decades and I have never flown it. I am not even a southerner, although I have lived in the deep south for most of my life.
I revere it for it’s historical meaning. I don’t need to fly it but would if the occasion was important to me.
I have no bad feelings about Haley. This matter was most certainly going to end in boycotts and worse if she had not made a legitimate compromise between what she wished to be and what actually was.
Having said that, I am currently in another flag battle. A County judge in a neighboring county was flying the “an appeal to heaven” revolutionary war battle flag on the courthouse lawn. A freedom from religion group threatened to sue and he took it down. Notwithstanding that the flag had literally nothing to do with religion and was based on a quote by John Loche and designed by a general Washington staffer. (some call it the pine tree flag)
I immediately ordered one and am flying it proudly at home.
So I am no shrinking violet...just a sensible man with a understanding of what battles to fight today and what battles need to wait for a better day.
Betsy Ross ... the only flag will ever fly with stars and stripes ... 13!
Speaking of the stars and stripes...
I have not been flying mine this year, actually since Obama got his second term.
If I did, I would have to fly it upside down and I am reluctant to do that because not everyone understands the meaning. They see it as unpatriotic....but it’s certainly not..however I just don’t have the desire to engage in the argument.
