LAUDERHILL, Fla. (July 9, 2015)- Police in South Florida say an 11-month-old baby died after being left inside a sport utility vehicle parked outside their apartment near Fort Lauderdale.

Lauderhill police spokesman Gregory Solowsky says the baby's parents and four other children were unloading groceries on Wednesday afternoon and forgot to get the baby out of the vehicle. He says about an hour later, they realized the baby wasn't in the house. They returned to the Ford Explorer and found the baby inside.

Good God, this happens so often. I can’t imagine ever forgetting about my baby.

Me either. These people will have to live with this for the rest of their lives. Just heartbreaking.

Lauderhill was nice many years ago. Now some locals call it Lauderkill. It’s not a good section of town.

I have the tendency to forget all kinds of things.
So when my daughter was born I used to take off one shoe and put it next to her car seat when we would leave.
That way I couldn’t walk off and forget to get her.
Know thyself.

A girl just got arrested for doing this in Phoenix. Luckily a guy walked by a minute or so after she left and apparently he called 911 rather than break open the window. The baby survived and is fine however.

Mind you, it's 105 plus in Phoenix this time of year.

It took them 30 minutes to find her in Walmart.

That was good thinking on your part.

No question, having a baby changes your life in many ways. Your whole mindset needs to change, as you are responsible for another life.

Know thyself, indeed.

Now this poor family will have to live with this lapse of judgment the rest of their lives.

Would it be possible, to electronically hook up the baby carrier someway that when the ignition is turned off a loud beep would go off on that seat? Possible?

It was much harder to forget babies when they were sitting up front with parents, but less die in crashes now (I assume).

I imagine there all types of baby reminder devices on the market in lieu of all these recent hot car deaths.

No kidding. I lived in Ft Lauderdale for about 5 decades. Lauderhill, once home to Jackie Gleason’s home country club and golf course, became a haven for Jamicans, Haitians and other assorted refugees many years ago.

While tragic, this does not happen all that often. Think of how many babies are put into car seats every day in this country. Now think of how many die as a result. It’s terrible when it does happen, but don’t give the liberals any ideas about enacting new legislation regarding some sort of alarm that goes off when you leave your kid in the car. Mandatory in all vehicles.

I went to the link, thanks, at least there is something. However not everyone has a smart phone or uses Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Many grandparents drive with the grandbabies in their car, and I can assure you that most of us do not have SMART PHONES, nor do we ever want one, EVER.

Sorry about the poor child.

But, I can’t help but thinking—when’s the last time you heard about a child or animal dying of heat exhaustion after being locked in a Prius? I can’t recall such an incident, myself.

I guess with a bunch of groceries and 4 other kids to herd.. they lost track. That being said, we always removed the youngest first. I stayed inside, while the hubby or kids helped with the groceries. Or, the oldest stayed with the baby while I brought the groceries in. This is just so sad... they will never forgive themselves.

VOILA..............thanks. They need to get this on SHARK TANK........, and this needs to be made MANDATORY for all car seats.

excerpt if allowed: """"Infant SOS has sensors that can detect if the car is parked with the baby still in the seat, the Rice University news site explains. After 30 seconds, the device will light up and sound an alarm. If the child has not been removed from the seat after five minutes, it will send up to 10 text message alerts to pre-programmed contacts, such as parents, other relatives, and emergency responders.""""

I think the reason may be that there are millions more SUV’s then Priuses.

“These people will have to live with this for the rest of their lives.”

Yes, it is tragic. They will have to live with this for the rest of their lives, in addition to the charges for child-neglect that will surely be filed against them.
