The problem as I understand it is that in today's legal climate few lawyers want the expense and potential danger to their careers incurred by representing the anti-same-sex-marriage side.
There were news stories about this same problem with legal representation in the supreme court case that ended up recognizing homosexual marriage. The traditional marriage side has been successfully marginalized with the bigot-racist-homophobe tags.
