Kids Locked Up For Refusing To Have Lunch With Dad; Judge Compares Siblings To Charles Manson Cult

PONTIAC (WWJ) – An Oakland County judge has sent three children to a juvenile detention facility for failing to have a relationship with their father, saying it’s one of the worst cases of parental alienation she’s ever seen — even comparing the children to the Charles Manson cult.

Circuit Judge Lisa Gorcyca declared the children — ages 9, 10 and 15 — in civil contempt of court during a hearing on June 24. The children were taken into custody and hauled off to Children’s Village after declining to have lunch with their father.

“It’s a very troubling case, no doubt,” said WWJ Legal Analyst Charlie Langton. “But you have to go way back to get the whole story. This is not just a lunch with dad. This goes back well more than that.”

I don't know all the details but this doesn't seem to be the best way to deal with the situation.

Probably “real” dad. Doubtful there is a “real” mother. The woman who gave them birth is dreadful.

I just read the article and the sensational headline does not tell the story at all.

The judge in this case has worked a long time to make sure that the children have any sort of relationship with their father. Their father has done everything he can to have a relationship with his children.

But their mother has poisoned her children with hatred of their father, and they refuse to even talk to him. When told they will either have lunch with their father or they will go to a detention center away from their family, the 9 and 10 year old decided to got to the center.

Now if you think this is extreme, consider this: both of the young children had a lawyer assigned to them and neither lawyer objected to the judge’s order. Two lawyers assigned to look after the children agreed after examining the case that the mother had indeed caused great injury to her children by means of alienation of their father.

I have seen this many times in cases of divorce, and it looks like this time the mom didn’t get away with it.

Reported out of Detroit but it happened in very republican Oakland county.

There’s something massively missing here.

OT1H, I applaud the judge being bold enough to stand up for a father.

OTOH, I applaud the kids for having such backbone.

While indeed there are truly nasty and crazy mothers out there, what is the impetus for the divorce? No information. Perhaps the father wasn’t such a great father while around. Perhaps he screwed around. Perhaps he was involved in other shenanigans. Maybe the mother indeed just takes a hard-line stand and that has rubbed off on these kids. Perhaps they have good reason for taking a stand.

Happened in my family, and more or less also with my husband. Screwing around, and or abuse, or just plain indifference, and they never turned back.

Of course, I’ve also seen my brother and a friend go through hell with vengeful yet irresponsible fools for women when it came to their children. Too bad they didn’t have this judge to make it easier.

They’ve been in there for over two weeks now, which is a long time for a kid; and all they have to do to get out is have lunch with their Dad. I sorta wonder if they might find detention an improvement over life with Mom, at least while this messy divorce is going on?

But that is exactly the impression given by the article and headline.

I think it’s a bit silly to bring up the Mansons. And stupid to suggest it to a teen. He might look it up and run with it.

Okay... let’s say that the Mom truly is poisoning her kid’s mind. (I’m saying this simply because we don’t know all the details). Then why couldn’t the judge place custody with the Dad and allow the Mom visitation? I just think that kids are caught between a rock and a hard place. Show Dad some love.. get rejected by the parent that has you most of the time. Not show Dad some love.. get thrown into jail. IMHO.. the judge should see the kids as being manipulated vs criminal. The fault lies with the adult(s).. perhaps Mom should be thrown into jail vs the kids. IMHO.

Dad has been in Israel for 2 weeks (business). I suppose he could have decided to not have the kids put into detention (not foster homes, juvie). Dad is remarried, has a 2 year old.

Good point. Why cannot custody be changed?

Maybe the kids would refuse that, too.

Here’s another thread on the subject...

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3309518/posts

And here’s a link to the Court transcript...

http://content.foxtvmedia.com/wjbk/pdf/tsimhoni_kids_sent_to_jail.pdf

In the transcript the Judge makes it clear that the Dad asked her not to put the kids in detention. And these days, he could return from Israel in 24 hours.

Good analysis. Parent alienation is real. And the kids “love the one” that they are with. The one who feeds them and buys them clothes. Its the known versus the unknown. I had a case where mom was isolating and alienating the kids from my client and we got a change of custody order when she moved in violation of an order that she could not do so. She also lied about the location. We went with the sheriff and picked them up. Within 24 hours the kids were smiling and laughing with their dad. He has worked on letting them have a safe relationship with their mom. Life is good for them now.

I don’t know if kids can refuse a custody arrangement? I thought it was determined during the divorce (hopefully with both parents on board and abiding by the rules). I just think jailing kids in a criminal institute for something like this is putting a band aid on the real problem.

Two things. The kids are not being thrown in jail, that’s part of the sensationalism of the story. They are being remanded into the custody of the State.

The second is this. If the kids won’t even sit down to have a lunch with their father, then the father cannot have custody of them. They would likely run away from him or put themselves in danger to avoid him.

It’s likely that the mother will be put in jail for violation of court order as well. Since the children refuse to be with their father, and mom will soon be in jail, then state custody is the only place left for these children.

I bet she doesn't lose custody, though...
