The new mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, has officially banned from schools dozens of children's books on subjects such as homosexuality and disability, provoking a flurry of criticism.
The controversial move to ban the titles was one of Brugnaro's promises during his campaign leading up to the June elections.
According to a statement published Wednesday on the mayor's website, Brugnaro said he would not be "intimidated", and listed 49 books as blacklisted for schools.
The banned titles include the French book "Jean has two moms", which centres around a wolf family with two mothers.
The mayor said that it is "parents that need to educate their children on these things, and not schools".
Reacting to the announcement, organizations launched a marathon of public readings of the banned books.
Several libraries also encouraged people to read the banned titles with signs reading "Blacklisted books, be a rebel, read them".
Look at the attendance to the public readings. This marathon may be a very good thing for Brugnaro!
Who wants to volunteer to smell poop? Get that garbage out of the schools; let parents educate their children on such matters.
For people trying to understand why Europe is SO DESPERATE to keep Greece in the EU, here is the reason. Without the EU, states like Greece, and Italy here, will be allowed to follow the policies that THEIR PEOPLE WANT, as Russia is also doing right now to protect their children from being recruited by the gay movement.
But as long as Brussels calls the shots, the gay movement will continue in Europe, unfettered...providing that Europe holds itself together.
Good. Pre pubescent kids can not learn about any kind of sex , deviant or normal, without bad consequences to their normal formation
No I in our stupid government is taking care of children and parents have walked off
No one should be sending their kids to government for upbringing
There’s a huge difference between “banning books on homosexuality” and preventing homosexual sales literature from being used in schools.
