Rand Paul Calls For An End To Sanctuary Cities, Says There Should Be Populist ‘Revolution’ Against Unsecured Border

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)93% called for an end of “sanctuary city” policies after a Mexican illegal immigrant, shielded by city authorities from deportation, allegedly shot and killed 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle on Pier 14 in San Francisco.

As CNN notes, there is no strict legal definition of a “sanctuary city,” a term that advocates for mass immigration dislike for its revealing nature. The movement began thanks to American churches in the 1980s who welcomed illegal aliens from Central America purportedly fleeing violence from the Third World, much as they do today. Now, more than 200 state and local jurisdictions defy federal immigration law by refusing to detain illegal aliens who are usually caught in the commission of another crime for deportation.

“Conservatives say we believe in the rule of law, and the beginning of the rule of law is enforcing the law. Since 1986, there was a promise we would enforce the law on border security. We’ve done squat. We’ve done nothing… Eleven million people have crossed over illegally,” Paul said on the Laura Ingraham show on Tuesday. “So, the first thing we have to do is enforce the law.” He added:

Will Jeb Bush flip-flop and call for and end to Sanctuary Cities, too?

And what about Rubio who proposed massive funding for Sanctuary Cities in his Gang of 8 Amnesty bill?

Since Obama has neutered ICE and the Border Patrol, every American city is a sanctuary city, whether called one or not.

On the contrary - implement CONSERVATIVE “sanctuary cities” where any federal law that is repugnant to traditional culture is ignored and not allowed to be enforced.

Dang, Rand. Hypocrite Much? Where do you think the illegals who come here from the open borders you support are going to go?

Suffering for attention or not, clearly there IS an issue here.

WHY have various municipalities chosen to set themselves up in opposition to the authority of the Federal government? Not because of any doctrine of providing “liberty” to the oppressed few, for humanitarian reasons, but for perversion of the existing jurisdictional order, and primarily as a center of resistance to what is perceived as historic “conservative” American values.

The counter-culture hippies of the 1960’s and 1970’s, originally in protest of the policies of Richard Nixon, have never forgotten their early learned prejudices against the support for civil order, and have finally gained the positions of power in these communities. It is interesting that their first objects of protest did NOT include the Republicans, but against the Democrat machines that ran the urban centers back then, which were definitely NOT Republican or conservative in nature. They won that battle back then, and seized the very soul of the Democrat party, effectively ending that entity as a representative of historic American values.

What has happened in the meantime, is that the flow of power within the territory once known as “the United States of America” has shifted from a representative republic to an increasingly centralized authoritarian regime, using the courts and lawfare to cripple and thwart attempts to reform and restore the republican form of government that had once served so well.

It is not just Rand Paul, we are ALL suffocating for attention and a modicum of respect for views that may seem to be unpopular, but ultimately a more reliable basis for human governance and interaction.

What clearly IS the issue here is that none of these jack-legs are going to do a damn thing about it.

They’re just riling us up. That’s all it is.

“Since Obama has neutered ICE and the Border Patrol, every American city is a sanctuary city, whether called one or not.”

That is an excellent point.

Agreed.

There is an ‘in your face’ attitude by these bad Americans who thumb their noses at all that keeps us civilized.

Another FReeper has a much better idea (sorry, forgot who): A sanctuary city for the rest of us: No income taxes. A sanctuary city where we the people don’t pay for welfare to the illegal aliens.

I don’t agree with the Doctor on much but... he’s right on on this one. End them with financial pressure... it’s already illegal... no federal money for ANYTHING from ANY DEPARTMENT to those who think not.

Since the concept of the “Sanctuary City” is a city that refuses to enforce certain laws, how can one ‘end’ that? You certainly cannot pass a law to end lawlessness.
