Arabs did make a lot of scientific discoveries. I’d say it was in spite of the regressive religion of Islam though.

Not as many as you might think. Also remember that the part of the world that the Arabs took over was the wealthiest best educated part of the Eastern Roman Empire. The crown jewel of of the ancient world. The remnant's of the best of Hellenistic, Egyptian and Roman culture. It took awhile for the Arabs to reduce the culture to barbarism we see today.
