St. Pope John Paul II & Pope Benedict on Gay Marriage: ‘Clear And Emphatic Opposition Is A Duty’

(CNSNews.com) -- All Catholics are “obliged to oppose the legal recognition of homosexual unions” and where such unions are given the legal status and rights that belong to marriage, “clear and emphatic opposition is a duty,” said St. Pope John Paul II in a 2003 letter issued by then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, the current Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.
In addition to Catholics in general having a duty to clearly oppose homosexual marriage, a Catholic politician “has a moral duty to express his opposition clearly and publicly and to vote against” such unions, and if it already is the law, the politician still must oppose it and has a “duty to witness to the truth,” said St. Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI.
“The common good requires that laws recognize, promote and protect marriage as the basis of the family, the primary unit of society,” said St. Pope John Paul II and Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) in the March 2003 document, Considerations Regarding Proposals to Give Legal Recognition to Unions Between Homosexual Persons.
“Legal recognition of homosexual unions or placing them on the same level as marriage would mean not only the approval of deviant behavior, with the consequence of making it a model in present-day society, but would also obscure basic values which belong to the common inheritance of humanity,” the letter states.
“The Church cannot fail to defend these values, for the good of men and women and for the good of society itself,” reads the letter. St. Pope John Paul II approved the Considerations on March 28, 2003 and ordered its publication.

So what will the Church do to respond to those Catholics who supported this thru the court system?
The Catholic Church had does nothing to stop the advance of gay marriage. It is time to stop with the liturgy (this goes for all liturgical churches) and start some real preaching with fire in the belly. There is a reason why people like Billy Sunday were so popular, he didn’t scratch the itchy ears, instead he preached God’s word with conviction.
Wait for the return of the prodigal son.

What the Church is saying by the action of not excommunicating members who don’t follow Catholic Doctrine, is that they believe God will not provide them if membership drops. The Apostles never worried about the tithe, they trusted that the Lord would provide them no matter what.
So what will they do to the apostate court members, and apostate congress critters. My guess: nothing. Well, not actually nothing. We have this here strongly worded whatever it it. Maybe a few more strongly worded whatever’s will help - NOT!
Sadly, the Church is no longer led by such Lions of the Faith. Instead, it is “lead” by a Marxist anti-pope who preaches global warming BS and is likely to back a “one world religion” that will be or look a lot like islam.
It is disheartening.
That said, we (Christians) know who wins in the end. But it is going to be a bumpy ride.
PS Can’t even truly put into words how much I miss the Blessed John Paul II and his ally in this world and in faith, President Ronald Reagan. Sigh.
By allowing the ‘state’ to set the rules and concepts of marriage and enforcing via licensure, I fail to see how the churches can be upset. The ‘state’ is by and large a secular institution and at some point in time will dictate secular decisions. This again should come as no surprise as fewer folks are identifying as ‘religious’.
Under Francis? Nothing.

Oh, and allow them Holy Communion.

I nearly don’t blame you, by the standard for some of the awful condition of the “new Mass”, aka, Novus Ordo out of Vatican II. It has brought into many Western churches, bad fruit. It was not always this way. That’s all I can say. If you are old enough to remember the vibrancy of the Catholic Church before the meddling of VII, you know what I mean. Vocations flourished in WW II and the 50’s were good to us.
Protestants and Catholics alike loved Bishop Sheen’s regular weekly program, and Father John what’s-his-name had Hollywood stars who were Catholic on TV frequently, saying the Rosary and promoting the old adage, “the family who prays together, stays together”. Bob Hope and his devout wife were staunch Catholics. The priests were fearless, heroic on the battlefields of Europe with their boys.
And then, Vatican II came.

the Apostate Archdiocese of Hartford (CT) refused to oppose same sex marriage. In the real world, that is.
I totally agree with what you’ve said about Pope Frances. And I, too, miss Blessed Pope John Paul II and Ronald Reagan, two wonderful, good men. So we all must continue to push forward and pray that Pope Frances is replaced as soon as possible.
