A financial advantage will only get you so far. At some point, there is a law of diminishing returns. Jeb can have a trillion to spend, but as long as he has zero enthusiasm from the base and is a horrible campaigner, it won’t do him much good.
Last time around the situation was different. Romney had tons of cash and was also a decent campaigner and at least pretended to be a conservative during the primary season. He was also up against a very weak field where I think Perry was the only candidate with the potential wherewithal to knock him off — until he flamed out in the debates.
$50 million is plenty for Cruz to get his message out and keep him going through Super Tuesday. And ultimately I don’t think Jeb will be his biggest obstacle — I think Walker is the real frontrunner and will be tough to beat unless he makes several unforced errors.
