Having said that, I think the parent should indeed be in the room. Thats my main issue off the top.
It seems to be a standard policy with many dentists that parents cannot accompany children. I assume the reasoning is that parents would be a distraction and/or simply be in the way, especially if it is a busy office.

Which is why they use physical restraints. Its far easier for the dentist.
