What I have wanted from Trump from this beginning, we seem to be getting.
Someone who will stand up, tell the truth about issues most people run from, and therefore engage conversations on the national stage that otherwise might be avoided.
I don’t believe he can win, but it’s a marathon. I want him in the race for the long haul. Other candidates are being forced to take stands. That’s a good thing.
Flawed though he is, The Donald could get the conservative base out in historic numbers if he doesn't lose his nerve.
In 1860 Lincoln was so unknown at the GOP convention he wasn't listed on the "program of candidates". Lincoln had many issues, some good, some bad, but he HAMMERED slavery expansion in the territories (the illegal immigration of the day). It pushed him to the top, because everyone else but Seward was afraid to really push it.
William Jennings Bryan also rode a single issue to his party's nomination (he lost). The point is, people WILL respond to guys who are "single issue" candidates---if it is a critical issue that no one else will address the right way.
“I dont believe he can win, but its a marathon. I want him in the race for the long haul. Other candidates are being forced to take stands. Thats a good thing.”
Ironically, if all that Trump does in the end is force other candidates to STEP UP to issues like Open Borders and Amnesty (and assuming we get someone like Cruz, who is good on these issues) - we may well wind up with a LANDSLIDE VICTORY this year, despite our (party’s) best efforts to again lose.
