Aren’t the Greeks talking about taxing bank accounts over a certain amount in frozen accounts tomorrow?
Something like qualifying US accounts over 250K per the FDIC, with the difference being 1. we are on notice, and 2. if we went Greek-style, the Treasury dept. would burn out their printing presses.

If they vote `Yes’. (We’ll bite the bullet.)
I think the Germans are finally fed up w/ subsidizing Greek retirements with pension at age 50, and with extra drachma if you worked in a “hazardous occupation” like hairdressing—all those dangerous chemicals like peroxide, ya know?
I gargle with hydrogen peroxide at night after brushing the ol’ toofers.
So it’s sort of like, “We’re already paying for your roof, three hots & a cot, and you sell the food stamps for booze, and now we’re footing the bills for your ambyoolances and ER? Gott in himmel!”.

Except one thing: It will give Greece a chance to start over free and clear.

If you default on all your debts and obligations, you get to start over free and clear? Nope. Not at all. You lose the ability to export goods, you lose the ability to import goods, you lose the ability to control inflation, you lose the ability to produce a currency that is usable outside your borders.

Greece has to import food and energy. Where do they get those? No, Greece doesn't get to start over free and clear.

If the Greeks didn't like the idea of living within their means as demanded by bankers willing to loan them money, then they will really dislike being forced to live below their means in order to eat food and use energy provided by Russia.

Greece will be used as an example of very bad decisions for centuries to come. Its people elected corrupt men who promised no end to the benefits that the country couldn't afford.

And now they pay with starvation, disease and riots.

Yes the Greeks are thinking about it based on the Cypress debacle:

http://news.sky.com/story/1068912/cyprus-agrees-20-percent-tax-on-bank-deposits

It’s a very dangerous meme that I am sure is being studied closely by the Dem’s here. Be very afraid.

The Greeks remember when the Turks attacked them in 1974 and the European Nato allies did NOTHING.

Soooo now they will take that European money, they will not pay it back, they will start printing their own money and become independent again. ....and the Turks may take all of their islands.

The Greeks are probably gonna side with the Syrians and Russians, they better have a damn plan for sure.

If they vote yes (highly unlikely) then the bankers may, just may, give them another loan if they promise to cut the government workforce, cut pensions, raise the retirement age, and reduce spending across the board.

If they vote no, they will be forced out of the Euro. Then they start starving (more than they are) as the drachma won’t be worth anything outside of Greece so they can’t import food or energy. When they get desperate enough, Putin will step in and ‘rescue’ them by giving them food and energy in exchange for control of ports and final say in economic matters.

Up until now, they have had a huge German sausage rammed down their throat to the point they are choking on it...

That helps a lot....thanks so much. Do we think the ‘no’ vote has more to do with the greeks wanting to be sovereign or more that they do not want to cut makes. Or....alittle of both?

It’s 100% the cuts. They were rioting several years ago when the government took the 340,000,000,000 Euro loan with the promise of austerity.

Just six months ago they elected Tsipras to be Prime Minister, who ran on the platform of no austerity and no loan repayments unless Greece got more favorable terms.

This has absolutely nothing to do wanting to be independent (Greece cooked the books to get into the EU), and everything to do with not wanting to give up their lives of little work, little responsibility, and plentiful loans.

That’s almost enough money for Germany to decide they should confiscate Greek land as compensation.

“Dangerous” for *them*.
Those of us who don’t riot or protest but have simply produced all our lives know what `MOA’ means.

France 24 has a banner up that says that official projections shows “no” vote ahead with over 61%.

IMO they are headed for disaster regardless of the outcome. The “yes” vote might help the markets a bit, but not much. A “No” vote pretty much means hey are on their own, and they can’t help themselves.

Were they forced into the EU? No! They lied and cheated their way to get into the organization. This whole “they just want freedom” stuff is nonsense. They wanted the economic advantages of being in the EU with no regard for their own economy. They figured they could just coast along and let the members of the EU subsidize their lifestyle.

They are almost as upset of the prospect of being kicked out of the EU as they are with the prospects that their pensions will be cut.

Whew talk about a strong dollar! I think I’ll start a travel agency. Unless the europs give Greece 100 billion bucks, the euro is going to drop.

Greeks be like...”Remember 1974”

It's not called Land graping anymore, it's called international Tourism.
Just like we don't say Invasion, it is called Immigration.
