Cardinal Wuerl: Same-sex marriage ruling is ‘law of the land’

WASHINGTON — The District’s top Catholic leader has weighed in on the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage.

“The law of the land is the law of the land,” says Archbishop of Washington Cardinal Donald Wuerl. “We certainly follow what the law says. That doesn’t mean we change the word of God. That doesn’t mean we change the scriptures, or the church’s millennia-long tradition of what marriage is.”

Everyone is welcome to the faith, Wuerl says: “Nobody is turned away because of their sexual identity, because of their race because of their ethnic background. And are we not all struggling to live the gospel?”

The Catholic church teaching will not change, but Cardinal Wuerl says Pope Francis has been more inclusive.

“He keeps saying, ‘Go out. Go out and meet people where they are. And in that encounter, walk with them, accompany them,'” Wuerl continues. “I think that’s what the church is saying. We all need to walk together as we try to make our way closer and closer to God.”

The Catholic church had no problem changing the sabbath, one of the ten commandments, from the 7th day to the 1st day. I don't think marriage will be an issue.

Yeah, when he was bishop of Pittsburgh, everyone knew he had a lot of priests who cruised in gay bars.

What a maroon! Empty pomp and emptier words.

He welcomes people of different sexual identities. It is not about sexual identities as the gays like to say, it is about sinful sexual behavior. which is an affront to God’s creation.

Are we not all struggling to live the Gospel? How many of the gays are actually trying to live the Gospel and how many are trying to change the Gospel?

What about gay couples who want to go to mass together to show off their sinful unions? What would the church do then?

Go out meet people where they are. Jesus talked to all kinds of people with the intention of getting to know their situation so that they could be brought back to the Father. Sinners were the lost sheep of Israel, Jesus did not want just to chat and socialize together while accepting their errors and sins. Jesus brought people to repentance. The Cardinal seems to just want them to feel okay with their sins.

This seems to be just more feel good faux Christianity.
This slop is what many people today mean when they use the word love.

The Supreme Court also ruled that abortion was legal, that abominable decision has resulted in the murder of 50 million babies in this country. What does the Cardinal say about that?

Some of the religious leaders of today remind me of the Pharisees and Saducees of the time of Jesus. They are people who like being looked up to and respected—show offs. They want to be part of the elite crowd.

Except for "inbred morons" who interpret Genesis literally. They are invited to join one of the many denominations G-d in His mercy allowed to rise up in history to accommodate people who aren't smart enough to be Catholic.[/sarcasm]

What Wurly says and what he does are two different things. We know this from past experience.

And your faux profanity pegs you as a heathen. You might as well have used the term you feigned. It's equally abhorrent.

I have to admit that describes you pretty accurately.
