Many Americans Don’t Have a Clue what the 4th of July is about – Here’s a Reminder

Amid Islamic terror threats, military exercises on American streets, a ringer in the White House, a legislating Supreme Court, a spineless Congress and a host of other lawlessness that is currently going on in America today, we can look and see that this is all because of two things: People are ignorant of history and law and they have turned their back on the God of our original founders.

To make the point of ignorance of law, check out the video below, in which Mark Dice asks people why we celebrate July 4.

Seriously, just make it through to the end and notice the guy from Italy knows more than Americans about our history!

However, the reality is that July 4 is to be a celebration of when our forefathers declared their independence from England and the tyranny of King George and the British Parliament and fought a bloody revolution in order to secure freedom. We take time to remember the sacrifice of those who wrote and signed the Declaration of Independence in order to secure freedom for the people of America.

Let me be clear: They did not give us freedom or our rights. They secured them. In a similar manner, those who serve our country today secure our freedoms and rights. They do not give them to us. God grants those things to men.

As such, the Fourth of July is not only about remembering and celebrating what took place on the soil we live on over 2oo years ago, but also a time to remember that there are still those today who sacrifice much in order to maintain the vestiges of freedom we still enjoy.

With that in mind, I'd like you to view this short, one-minute video produced by Food City in 2013 to remind people of what Independence Day is all about. Again, it isn't about winning "against the South," defeating the extra-terrestrial aliens alongside Will Smith, or breaking away from California. It was about breaking away from tyranny.

The only thing about the video that I disagree with is the term "provide." Some may recall that Jack Nicholson used that term in the film A Few Good Men. Let's make sure we have our terms correct, so that we have a proper understanding of the function of government. As I stated above, our government is to secure freedom for the people, not provide it.

Webster's 1828 Dictionary speaks defines the term "provide" as "To furnish; to supply; To procure beforehand; to get, collect or make ready for future use; to prepare." It also defines the term "secure" as "Free from danger of being taken by an enemy; that may resist assault or attack."

In fact, our Declaration of Independence speaks to the issue of security.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…

Again, neither government nor the military provides rights or freedom. Those are given by the hand of God, the Creator (Jesus Christ, cf. John 1:1-2).

In the Preamble to the US Constitution, the term provide is used alongside the term secure.

WE THE PEOPLE of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

The Lord Jesus declared who gives men freedom.

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. –John 8:36

Unlike we saw last week in the Supreme Court's illegal ruling concerning sodomy and marriage, freedom is not to be abused to do what is wrong. Freedom is given to do what is right before God.

This Fourth of July, remember to thank the One who truly sets men free and also take time to thank those who secure your freedom in the natural world, our veterans.

Too bad our court is comprised of one scrawny old napping crone, three overweight lesbians, one loon who enjoys the fact that he is a swing vote, one chief who is bought and three good men. Not enough!

There are ways to overturn a Court decision,,,,it's called a constitutional amendment.

Especially folks "educated" since the 1960's. They have stopped teaching American history in schools, in favor of self-esteem classes. No grading on the bell curve anymore. No grades anymore. Everybody either passes or fails. Everybody has to feel special and the same. Good students are not rewarded anymore. In fact, they are attacked for having "privilege." Poor students are not held back anymore until they "get it" but are promoted so they are not left behind.

The teachers unions brought the advent of "us" first, the students last. Teachers are allowed to spew the vilest of anti-American rhetoric, socialist and communist drivel and fill the kids heads with the idea that they are deserving instead of having to work hard, they're "entitled".

Spelling tests? Forget that. If they have the "right idea" and make an effort, they are patted on the back and rewarded for their lack of skills. Math? No memorizing multiplication times tables anymore either. Common Core teaches them to head to LA and then back to New York by way of Canada for the shortest way to the correct answer.

And worst of all, classes that used to be called "civics", where we learned the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, the Founding Fathers, the three distinct branches of government and how our system of government, from federal to states to local communities, worked, is no longer part of the curriculum. It has been replaced by lessons in micro-aggressions, white privilege, trigger words, political correctness and how they deserve a $15/hour minimum wage for having no skills.

As you validly assert, many Americans don't have a clue because the school systems aren't teaching them to have a clue anymore. Only that their country stinks and they deserve better.

My landlord emailed me to ask if he could clean the pool today. I said no, Sunday or Monday would be better. After thinking about it, I emailed back asking if he’d been joking after I’d told him the story of chasing the Mexican gardener’s out, waving my hand held flag on another 4th. He wasn’t. Excuse me, I qualify to be a DAR. Here’s the order of importance- Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving, July 4th- INDEPENDENCE Day.

I would put the order of importance exactly reversed from your list with July 4 first. Being that you qualify for Daughters of the American Revolution, you might know of the Battle of Cowpens and the Battle of King’s Mountain. I had folk who fought there.

A few years ago, as Independence Day was approaching, Sean Hannity sent a young girl reporter out onto the streets of New York to ask passersby what we celebrate on July 4. The majority didn’t know. That reporterette later admitted that she herself didn’t know, and guessed that it was a celebration of the end of one of the World Wars.

We need to start by calling it “Independence Day” and de-emphasize the date. It could have been any day; July 4th was just the day independence happened to be declared. And forget about making this a three-day weekend. Independence can stand on its own! Or, better yet, declare the first week in July Independence Week. Patriotic celebrations going on every day, people really getting into the spirit of it, like we still did a hundred years ago.

Good grief, man. The whole month of July is National Pickle Month! Can’t we patriots at least make an effort?
