SONGS OF THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE

Around the middle of December 1774, deputies appointed by the citizens of Maryland met at Annapolis, unanimously resolved to resist the authority of Parliament to tax the colonies and to support the acts of the Continental Congress. They recommended that every man should provide himself “a good firelock, with bayonet attached, powder and ball, and be in readiness to act in any emergency.” The author adapted the song “Abbot of Canterbury.”

”Maryland Resolves”

I talked to her today. She is in a lot of pain, but because of a bad reaction to pain meds can only take tylenol...which isn’t much for a fractured pelvis.

SONGS OF THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE

This song was very popular in England and the Colonies. It was composed by John Tait, a judge in one of the minor courts at Edinburgh. It is adapted from the Irish “Langolee.”

”Banks of the Dee”

Would you mind if an old Fort Hood cavalryman sends this one out to his fellow Americans? We always used this when passing in review.

SONGS OF THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE

This turn on the Irish tune “Paddy” must have been popular with the colonists because there were four different versions published as broadsheets. The Irish were not fans of the war in the Americas, their disputes with the English going back to Cromwell.
