LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) – Teachers who work for the Clark County School District may not get a pay raise in the upcoming school year. They are not happy about it and they are making sure the district hears them loud and clear.

Teachers say they feel under valued at a time when the district is offering a sign-on bonus to new teachers of up to five thousand dollars. They say the district should focus on retention, rather than recruitment.

"My stomach just dropped. It was just another punch to the stomach," said Elizabeth Harris.

Oh, please. They are lucky they are employed and only work about 9 months a year when you figure-in the various holidays in the school year. Then, there is the retirement bennies, health insurance, etc. for which the taxpayers get soaked. I never met a “educator” who didn’t complain about their pay & benefits. It must be a course taught to the while they are getting their education degrees.

I used their own school calender I got in the mail, and I added up the days the teachers ACTUALLY work. It came to 6 months a year - not 9.
Plus, many never see an 8 hour day.
Chicago retirees get a triple digit pension, too. Triple digit! For hardly working at all!
Teacher have no idea whats it like to have a real job. The taxpayers made their lives way to easy.

You have no idea what you are talking about. My wife is a teacher and you are right she rarely sees an 8 hour day. She is always staying after school for a conference, meeting, planning or grading papers. She is suppose to get planning time but they always take it for something else.

She made a whopping 32,000 last year. While I agree that they knew the pay was low when they chose to teach, it is difficult for even a single person to live on that pay. I understand they get weekends and part of the summer off but the summer is unpaid. Trust me teaching is no walk in the park.

“Chicago retirees get a triple digit pension, too. “

I wonder how many will actually collect on that. Either:

a. They will take a pretty serious “haircut”...or...
b. By then, with the certain hyperinflation, those monthly checks might make for a nice evening out at Golden Corral...once a month. Tank up!!

I just read that Chicago is putting a 9% “amusement tax” on Netflix. The original purpose of the tax was to pay for the police, infrastructure, and police/crowd control at events. Apparently, this now includes entertainment in your own house (taxed)provided by your own equipment (also taxed) and powered by your own electricity (also heavily taxed). the city so expensive and the property so hard to move that the residents are captive. If you haven’t moved by now, it may be too late.

If a teacher is truly conscientious they are working, prepping, at home correcting and planning. It is more than a 40 hour week.

Beginning teachers for CCSD try to make a living on less that 38,000K a year.

My wife’s school year ended June 1 and last week she just finished extra required and voluntary teacher education classes. School starts again August 21 but she’ll start getting her classroom ready the first week of August. She is making her lesson plans for next year now.

Also, you might have noticed it is not getting any easier teaching kids these days especially since most have crappy parents for one reason or another.

All in all she works tirelessly without complaint. She loves her students and is dedicated to helping them become independent thinking, hardworking patriotic Americans. All this gets done in spite of them being mostly and recently from Mexico and Central America.

So please don’t paint all teachers with a broad brush. They are forced to join unions and have little say. You should save your ire for the politicians and teacher unions who enable each other.

I’d agree...it is no walk in the park...it is a picnic in the park.

I guess both you and your wife are so immersed in your “bubble” of government jobs, that you have rendered yourselves incapable of logically comprehending the real world consequences of your individual choices of (in)actions.

Perhaps you could talk to your peer groups of other government employees, and join together to fight back against the people who are sick of paying your inflated salaries for substandard work...

LOL!

I have zero sympathy for you.
And no, you will not be allowed membership in any subsequent survivalist group, when the SHTF.

Your group of close associates is the entire reason the S will HTF, sooner rather than later.

But have a nice day!

Hey union filth...quit your whining. You couldn’t hold a job in the private sector, and I doubt you could teach your way out of a wet paper bag.

Most FReepers could blow your doors off in the classroom.

For the good and conscientious teachers it is rough, and those are the kind we need.

“For the good and conscientious teachers it is rough, and those are the kind we need.”

Bless your heart!

Just how stupid are you, to profess to believe there exists a cadre of good and conscientious teachers?
They are all government employees.
None will stand up against corruption, with their own paychecks on the line.If any of them are conscientious, they would resign.

I don’t think you understand how angry I am about that.

They can pray to God to forgive them.
I’m not God, and I don’t.

err...that was patently not satire.

And you knew that, didn't you?
So why would you try to pretend otherwise?

Do you really think any non-essential government “jobber” is morally superior to an illegal immigrant foreign born welfare sponger who depends on your corrupt largesse to function?

Ask God for forgiveness.
I pray to God for simple justice.

And I don't sarcastically wish you any kind of happy anything.
