One thing I notice is — this man is NOT politically correct and has shown himself not to be swayed by the feelings of the moment.

Witness his defense of the South’s right to fly the Confederate Flag.

This can be a good or bad thing.

Good if you stick to your principles ( as long as your principles are good for the country ).

Bad if you stick to your principles ( and they are a disaster ).

Like Jeb Bush and Chris Christie?

Webb represents an almost extinct type of Democrat: a liberal rather than a radical. He has more in common with Democrats like Harry Truman, Hubert Humphrey, and Tip O'Neill than with Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. He isn't a conservative by any stretch, but he is a throwback to the days when Democrats were a sane opposition as opposed to subversive enemies.
