Upset over its abrupt cancellation, “Dukes of Hazzard” fans are demanding the corporate parent of TVLand immediately restore the iconic program to its daily schedule.
Supporters of the show have been flocking to the “Stop Banning Dukes of Hazzard” Change.org petition, with signatures increasing at a rate of thousands per hour. In just an hour of monitoring its progress, the Media Equalizer watched its total number rise from 25,000 to 33,000, already close to reaching its stated goal of 35,000. (1:33pm update: total over 40,000)
It was initiated by Donald Covell of Coldwater, Michigan, who said in the description that “‘The Dukes’ was about family values, fighting corruption, helping friends, neighbors and even strangers, no matter what color they were. There were multiple episodes where they helped people of colors other than ‘white’, and it even had a black sheriff that appeared often, who was respected and feared more then the sheriff of Hazzard.”

The show was making fun of people like my neighbors at the time. Many transplants to the south would call neighbors by the characters names (not intending to flatter). And my neighbors knew that and still loved the show.
Now, people who it doesn’t make fun of (and who used to like to laugh at rednecks in it) want it off the air and people who it does make fun of want to watch it. Other groups should take a lesson on how to laugh at themselves rather than be offended.
Just think of the outcry if it was remade with a rainbow flag and all of the characters were minorities doing the equivalent stereotypes of their group. Yet, the only thing most of them see wrong with the show is it’s flag.

Legislation to unbundle cable ought to be one of our goals anyway. A lot of Liberal crap gets supported by bundled cable.

A bunch of big shots and loudmouths have taken the position that the Confederate Flag and other southern memorabilia should be made less conspicuous.
If momentum swings and the memorabilia becomes thought of as something that should be preserved and cherished, the big shots and loudmouths will be exposed as the wimps that Trump complains about. I can’t wait.
