I said to a friend not two hours ago that this issue will be raised again real soon because of the gay marriage, Obamacare and Confederate flag victories - the left will circle back to this to keep up the momentum - they never ever stop.

We have a problem, and it is a serious one. (bear with me-this may not sound relevant to this, but it is...the relentless assault of liberalism you referred to)

It is fundamental problem.

Conservatives generally don’t believe in reinventing the wheel. They believe that there is value in time and history, and that the forces at play by observing time and history will steer events. If a guy was eaten every week by sabertooth tigers, the other guys would hunker down and mostly they would go on living. All the innate learned knowledge by millions of people actually is meaningful...so we avoid being eaten by sabertooth tigers.

Liberals believe that they can always improve a situation and fix a situation, even if the situation is managing pretty well. They always think they have a better idea, and their ideas are a mile wide and a nanometer deep. When they are given control of something...they have to, they MUST control it.

So, the walls of society that have been built and guarded by time and billions of people must be protected.

They must be defended from the predations of harebrained, shallow, wrongheaded, brainwashed, egotistical, vindictive, unhappy liberals. As conservatives, we must man that wall 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We have to guard, fight, and defend that wall. Think of a dyke in Holland as that wall. One crack, and the sea flows in. Constant vigilance must be maintained.

But we can’t be everywhere at once, and we occasionally sleep. When we do, the relentless, unceasing pressure invades, and cannot be turned back. Territory once lost is rarely retaken. Liberalism acts as a one-way ratchet, like the backward bending teeth in a snake’s mouth that keep the victims slow progression ever directed inward towards the direction of the further darkness within.

And there lies the problem. Our numbers grow more slowly, simply because the learning curve is higher, FAR higher for conservatism that it is for liberalism. Conservatives learn the lessons taught by history and the life in it, and we listen to them. We learn from them. We change, we gain understanding. Conservatives are the child, who growing to adulthood, reaches the point of realizing how hard our parents tried to provide for us, teach us and raise us. The older a person gets, if they are truthfully reflective in any way, realize that the things they know and understand are a smaller and smaller portion of what “is”. Basically, they have a better understanding of what they DON’T know.

That makes conservatism a slower-growing camp.

But liberals pop out of the ground like earthworms in a rainstorm. They can be dropped into a glass of water and hydrate into life, a useful warrior in liberal hydrostatic pressure. A person goes to college, and can transform into a spittle-lipped, starry-eyed liberal in a matter of months. They come home, and nobody recognizes them, including sometimes, their own parents. Thing is, you can BE a liberal if you just want to be. There is no introspection, no constant examination of ones own beliefs to ensure they are logically consistent and can stand up to scrutiny. None of that.

If you hate hunger, you can say all the governments in the world can pitch in money, buy food for the hungry, and you can be a liberal, just like that, no waiting period.

If you think everyone should own a quarter acre with a house, running water, heat, and a 60 inch LCD television, you can easily see taking money from the rich and giving it to poor people, and you can be a liberal.

Basically if something makes you feel like you care about the welfare of others, no matter how insane, crazy, expensive, or harebrained, you can buy into it even if it means jumping to your death in a bottomless crater in the middle of a prairie with millions of other like minded people jumping with you.

There is a massive imbalance in the rate at which conservatism and liberalism grow, and that creates this unceasing pressure, this relentless, one way ratchet we see. It is why, as you say, it is inevitable that they will latch onto this “cause” like remoras on a shark. As sure as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west. It is inevitable.
