"In 1777, thirteen gunshots were fired in salute, once at morning and once again as evening fell, on July 4 in Bristol, Rhode Island. Philadelphia celebrated the first anniversary in a manner a modern American would find quite familiar: an official dinner for the Continental Congress, toasts, 13-gun salutes, speeches, prayers, music, parades, troop reviews, and fireworks. Ships were decked with red, white, and blue bunting." source: Wikipedia

"Another guest describes a relatively "inelegant" meal: "Dined at the P.'s [President's] -- . . . Dinner not as elegant as when we dined before. Rice soup, round of beef, turkey, mutton, ham, loin of veal, cutlets of mutton or veal, fried eggs, fried beef, a pie called macaroni . . . . Ice cream very good . . .; a dish somewhat like pudding . . . covered with cream sauce -- very fine. Many other jimcracks [nuts, sweetmeats, and fruit], a great variety of fruit, plenty of wines, and good." source: Dinner is Served: Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, monticello.org
Love that picture! :)
Thank you! I believe that is a Jack Russell Terrier. :)
He stayed still long enough for the picture. LOL!
Amazing-they’re amongst the most energetic of dogs. :)
"It follows then as certain as that night succeeds the day, that without a decisive naval force we can do nothing definitive, and with it, everything honorable and glorious." George Washington

"A salute of one gun for each state in the United States, called a salute to the union, is fired on Independence Day at noon by any capable military base." source: Wikipedia
July 4th:
"In the pre-Revolutionary years, colonists had held annual celebrations of the king's birthday, which traditionally included the ringing of bells, bonfires, processions and speechmaking. By contrast, during the summer of 1776 some colonists celebrated the birth of independence by holding mock funerals for King George III, as a way of symbolizing the end of the monarchy's hold on America and the triumph of liberty. Festivities including concerts, bonfires, parades and the firing of cannons and muskets usually accompanied the first public readings of the Declaration of Independence, beginning immediately after its adoption.."source: History.com
"July 4, 1886 The people of France offer the Statue of Liberty to the people of the United States." source: Wikipedia
"In 2009, New York City had the largest fireworks display in the country, with over 22 tons of pyrotechnics exploded.
Other major displays are in Chicago on Lake Michigan; in San Diego over Mission Bay; in Boston on the Charles River; in St. Louis on the Mississippi River; in San Francisco over the San Francisco Bay; and on the National Mall in Washington, D.C..
During the annual Windsor-Detroit International Freedom Festival, Detroit, Michigan hosts one of the world's largest fireworks displays, over the Detroit River, to celebrate Independence Day in conjunction with Windsor, Ontario's celebration of Canada Day."source: Wikipedia
What a nuisance to take it back, but I guess I will have to. Thank you for trying to help me.
Seems like it is locked up tight as a drum and won’t let you do anything.
Something is really wrong.
July 4th:
"When the initial battles in the Revolutionary War broke out in April 1775, few colonists desired complete independence from Great Britain, and those who did were considered radical.
By the middle of the following year, however, many more colonists had come to favor independence, thanks to growing hostility against Britain and the spread of revolutionary sentiments such as those expressed in Thomas Paines bestselling pamphlet Common Sense, published in early 1776.
On June 7, when the Continental Congress met at the Pennsylvania State House (later Independence Hall) in Philadelphia, the Virginia delegate Richard Henry Lee introduced a motion calling for the colonies independence.
Amid heated debate, Congress postponed the vote on Lees resolution, but appointed a five-man committeeincluding Thomas Jefferson of Virginia, John Adams of Massachusetts, Roger Sherman of Connecticut, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania and Robert R. Livingston of New Yorkto draft a formal statement justifying the break with Great Britain."source: History.com
