I think this is going to mobilize evangelical Christians. Despite all the media propaganda, there is a majority that supports traditional marriage, across all demographics.

People react to emotion and not the fine points of constitutional arguments, so you may be right. I recall what happened to Goldwater when he opposed the Feds imposing their civil rights views on the states. All the public was able to absorb from that was that Goldwater was a racist.
