That is correct.
Cruz said verbatim:
“I don’t like the idea (legalizing marijuana), but it’s up to the States”.
For me, Cruz’ statement means ‘States Rights’ (as part of the Constitution) trumps his personal preferences.
Cruz is predictable. If a subject is not explicit in the Constitution, or its background is not expounded upon in the Federalist Papers, then it’s a non-issue unless the Constitution is amended.
Cruz is a strict constitutionalist and puts his personable preferences aside. This makes it easy for people to know where he stands and further where he will stand when he is elected President.
Other aspects and traits of Ted Cruz that make it easy for people to know where he stands and what he means are his laser focus on the truth, his razor sharp memory and the depth of his knowledge base. For example, recently a broadcast interviewer attempted several ‘gotchas’ with Ted Cruz on the subject of the equivalence of homosexual marriage and interracial marriage, and the ‘religious’ arguments made in history in support of banning interracial marriage. Cruz answered there was no religious ‘backing’ for those who argued ‘religion’ to ban interracial marriage. The interviewer continued to argue that ‘religion’ was used in court. The interviewer had not done the homework to realize the so-called ‘religious’ arguments to support a ban on interracial marriage were baseless. In fact, there is not one word in Scripture that bans interracial marriage. The only cautions or bans against marriage in Scripture are based on faith, not race. The ‘religious’ arguments used in court had no backing. Ted Cruz was exactly right.
For me, if Cruz says something, he means precisely what he says. I have checked him time and time again and he has always been spot on. I have seen many other posters to this forum check what he says and come back to report that what was said was absolutely true. So now I give Ted the benefit of the doubt. He’s removed the burden from me having to fact check everything he says. That makes life easier.
For me, what someone says in court can be meaningless because people can say anything. Potheads in the new ‘Church of Cannibis’ claim laws against marijuana violate their !st Amendment rights to freely exercise their ‘religion’.
I can predict Ted saying these potheads have no religious ‘backing’ I would say they have a smokescreen, they have a mask of deception, regardless of what I think of marijuana laws. I trust Cruz, I don’t trust the potheads. Ted says this election comes down to one word, ‘Trust’. And he cautions people not to blindly trust ‘what’ a politician says, he encourages them to say to politicians “Don’t tell me! Show me!”. And then he explains that’s why he has no ‘issues page’ on his website tedcruz.org. Rather, he has a long track record of performance to show what he’s done.
Again, the courts have neither been standard in their rulings/logic nor proficient in English.

Voting tax = bad, 2nd A. tax (license) = fine
Stealing peanuts = bad, Welfare/SS/Medicare = fine
Prohibition and repeal = lawful, drug-war = lawful
4th/5th/9th/10th/13th on own = good, but disregard when it comes to 16th or War on Drugs/confiscation
However, lawfare is the act of dragging your opponent through the hallowed halls of whimsy, just for kicks.

People react to emotion and not the fine points of constitutional arguments, so you may be right. I recall what happened to Goldwater when he opposed the Feds imposing their civil rights views on the states. All the public was able to absorb from that was that Goldwater was a racist.

Few here believed that Romney had what it took.
We all lamented his failure to tackle obama’s many weaknesses, especially in the phony debates.
After the election was over though, it became apparent that he had likely won, but that fraud had covered it up.
Cruz is not that stupid, nor are his supporters. The honest captains of industry are all solidly behind Cruz, and will remain there.

We all know Cruz is smart, it’s even fair to call him brilliant.
But who didn’t know that when legislation giving Obama even more unchecked power was in the balance that shenanigans were going to be pulled?
Each and every Freeper did, even you, if you’re honest with yourself. That’s who these people are, that’s how they live, that’s how they operate each and every day. History has proven that time and again.
Everyone knew it, except, apparently, Cruz.
What his initial vote speaks of, is a lack of wisdom.
