In 2016 operation, Dr. Carson is outpacing many U.S. presidential rivals

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Ben Carson, a renowned neurosurgeon with no experience in the cutthroat world of Washington politics, is riding a surprising wave of support among conservatives that has placed him near the top of contenders for the Republican presidential nominee in 2016.

The soft-spoken 63-year-old Carson, an African-American who only officially became a Republican last year, has found an opening in the wide-open race in which 13 candidates are running for the White House. His resume of having performed 15,000 surgical operations is the most unusual of anyone in the field.

In polls, Carson outperforms most of his fellow candidates, who often have much bigger media profiles, much more political experience and in many cases have track records as governors or senators. While the spotlight has been on opponents like former Florida governor Jeb Bush and Florida Senator Marco Rubio, Carson has been quietly building a grassroots following.

His surprising popularity in the polls has translated into a high number of individual donations that has not been previously reported. Interviews with supporters and conservative activists suggest he is benefiting from a weariness among some Republicans with establishment politicians.

Much of his appeal centers on his lack of connection to Washington and his off-the-cuff speaking style: He eschews prepared speeches in favor of thoughts he jots down on index cards to which he may or may not refer.

His supporters are not troubled by his lack of political experience and indeed welcome the fact that he is new to the public stage. His support is particularly strong among Christian conservatives, who like the fact that his half-dozen books and speeches are infused with discussions about his faith.

Carson is trying to pull off the virtually unthinkable: To become the first non-politician to be elected president since World War Two hero General Dwight Eisenhower in 1952. Republican strategists say, however, he is extremely unlikely to secure his party's nomination.........................He would get my vote.

If he is CONSERVATIVE, then the GOP and FOX “News”
will crush and ignore him. It is their way.

I would have to decide if I could tolerate his gun grabber attitude.

"Carson is trying to pull off the virtually unthinkable: To become the first non-politician to be elected president since World War Two hero General Dwight Eisenhower..."

I think Carly Fiorina fits that bill...Carson has a pretty quirky view on guns....weak on the Constitution...Fiorina, Cruz, both strong on the Constitution.

“It was no accident that our Founding Fathers enshrined the right to own firearms as the 2nd element of the Bill of Rights, immediately after establishing our free speech rights. I cannot and will not support any efforts to weaken The 2nd Amendment.

The 2nd Amendment is a central pillar of our Constitution. Our Founding Fathers added it explicitly in order to protect freedom in the United States of America. It provides our citizens the right to protect themselves from threats foreign or domestic.” - Ben Carson

Check it out!

I like Carly. I hope someone picks her as VP nominee.
Carly is battle-tested, rested and ready for more.

Carson doesn’t stand a chance of getting nominated.

Asked by Beck for his thoughts on the Second Amendment, Carson gave the popular pro-gun argument: “There’s a reason for the Second Amendment; people do have the right to have weapons.”

But when asked whether people should be allowed to own “semi-automatic weapons,” the doctor replied: “It depends on where you live.”

“I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people, and I’m afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it,” Carson elaborated.

However, if you live “out in the country somewhere by yourself” and want to own a semi-automatic weapon, he added, “I’ve no problem with that.”

Who decides the line of demarcation where the 2nd Amendment applies and where it does not?

Fortunately, red states won't be buying into the pro-gun grabbing conversation of these wannabeeees. It must be a sign they don't actually want the nomination. Maybe the race helps them sell books and have speaking tours. (Lot of money in that, says Hillary.) Gun grabbing is a brain surgeon's no-brainer, dead in the water. There is something sinister about anyone who obsesses over the 2A. They need to get a life outside the do-gooder cookie jar. Naivete in these times, is deadly. Why do they want your gun, anyway? Taking your gun helps what, and whom? Look around after you are disarmed, unarmed, and see whom it advantages. Case slammed shut. :D

I like Carly’s mouth taking on the Left and Hillary. We need her in the race until the last dog howls.

If she were VP and came into the presidency, I have a feeling she would be a cultural nightmare. Why is that? I can’t seem sold on her religious credentials, at all. She is VERY unambitious about taking on unjust law. Particularly gay “marriage”. She holds that if it’s law, she will comply.

Our nation is on a thread for survival and Carly proves to be no fighter for the faith, that’s been made crystal clear.

Carson is in the same league with with Carly Fiorina, Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, etc....who tell it like it is!!! American voters are flocking to folks like these, because, they have finally come to realize what low life lie telling, vermin most Republican & Democrat politicians are.

On the Democrat side....Hillary is being bypassed rapidly by Bernie Sanders, socialist that he is....but, old Bernie says exactly what he feels and what he would do....and, that is refreshing to millions of American voters!!!

Folks....watch these outsiders, on both sides....they are where the country is headed as the future comes upon us. Forget Obama, Clinton, Biden, etc....forget the “Obamabot/Clinton” media!!!! They rant and rave, but...they are in full panic as they know what is coming. You saw the beginning in 2010...then more of it in 2014, and 2016 will be devastating for the Democrat Party, politically, for a number of very valid reasons, beginning with the economy and high middle class paying jobs...across the board!!!

Regardless of what else he believes in he’s anti-gun and that’s a deal breaker for me.

I respect and admire Dr Carson. I welcome his continued involvement in the political process and our government, at the highest level that he is able to achieve, including POTUS.

Based on things that Dr. Carson has said, he is evidently a low-information candidate, clueless to the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers.

I would nonetheless vote for Carson if he showed that he is not only willing to work with patriots to get up to speed on the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers, but that he’s also willing to work with patriots to peacefully force corrupt Congress back into its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited power cage and support removing activist justices from the bench.
