Supreme Court Allows Use of Execution Drug
NY Times ^ | June 29, 2015 | Adam Liptak

The Supreme Court ruled on Monday against three death row inmates who had sought to bar the use of an execution drug they said risked causing excruciating pain.

Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. wrote the majority opinion in the 5-to-4 decision. He was joined by the court’s four more conservative justices.

The drug, the sedative midazolam, played a part in three long and apparently painful executions last year. It was used in an effort to render inmates unconscious before they were injected with other, severely painful drugs.

Four condemned inmates in Oklahoma challenged the use of the drug, saying it did not reliably render the person unconscious and so violated the Eighth Amendment’s ban on cruel and unusual punishment. Lower courts disagreed.

Yep, they’re political pawns without any sense of judicial intellect.

Everyone of them should be impeached

I’m in favor of the firing squad. Cheap, guaranteed, and volunteers would be easy to find.

It's time we followed Biblical JUSTICE and make them die in the same manner that they killed their victims.
THAT IS JUSTICE,

Didn’t Utah bring back firing squads?

That's not painful enough.
It does NOT instill FEAR in the masses.

While I would agree that it would be just and proper, it would still be litigated to death (pardon the pun) by liberals and others who strongly oppose the death penalty in all cases. I prefer Nitrogen Asphyxiation because it is so much harder to argue against it. Standard atmosphere is approximately 78% nitrogen. Your body doesn't even notice it is dying if there is no CO2 present. You just pass out (fairly quickly actually), and wake up dead. Industrial plants that make heavy use of nitrogen have deal with this effect by instituting all kinds of safeguards, because you simply do not realize you are about to die until it has already happens, and you receive your ultimate reward.

You know the cops occasionally take pure heroin in raids. A nice fat shot will put one of these murderers to sleep for good.

I have never understood why the states don’t give them the one shot injection that terminal dogs, cats, and horses receive. Death takes less than 2 seconds.

I’d rather have the rulings the left won in this round vs. the rulings the right won. These are scraps they are giving the conservatives.

I hate waking up dead. People try to kill you again and call you a zombie.

I’m not an expert, but I do believe there are better ways to achieve the results.

1. Administer a sedative, valium 5 or 10 mg
2. Administer a sleeper, propofol

...night night

3. Administer potassium chloride

...welcome to judgement day

I do find it curious all this uproar over these folks being exposed to pain considering the pain they inflicted.

Just give them the potassium chloride and be done with it

I used to advocate CO (carbon monoxide), its easy enough to manufacture on site. But Nitrogen will do as well!

Dude, that's a loser because it contains .....

carbon!

Lord knows, we can't be spewing carbon out into the atmosphere or anything. CO is even worse than CO2 from what I hear from Chicken Little and his cohorts.

Of course, the whackjobs might be able to claim that since nitrates are used in explosives, and that nitrates contain Nitrogen, that's it's a non-starter as well.

I say we kill the whackjobs first.
