Supreme Court Decision On Marriage “A Tragic Error” Says President Of Catholic Bishops’ Conference

June 26

The U.S. Supreme Court decision, June 26, interpreting the U.S. Constitution to require all states to license and recognize same-sex “marriage” “is a tragic error that harms the common good and most vulnerable among us,” said Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville, Kentucky, president of Conference of Catholic Bishops

Regardless of what a narrow majority of the Supreme Court may declare at this moment in history, the nature of the human person and marriage remains unchanged and unchangeable. Just as Roe v. Wade did not settle the question of abortion over forty years ago, Obergefell v. Hodges does not settle the question of marriage today. Neither decision is rooted in the truth, and as a result, both will eventually fail. Today the Court is wrong again. It is profoundly immoral and unjust for the government to declare that two people of the same sex can constitute a marriage.

The unique meaning of marriage as the union of one man and one woman is inscribed in our bodies as male and female. The protection of this meaning is a critical dimension of the “integral ecology” that Pope Francis has called us to promote. Mandating marriage redefinition across the country is a tragic error that harms the common good and most vulnerable among us, especially children. The law has a duty to support every child’s basic right to be raised, where possible, by his or her married mother and father in a stable home.

Jesus Christ, with great love, taught unambiguously that from the beginning marriage is the lifelong union of one man and one woman. As Catholic bishops, we follow our Lord and will continue to teach and to act according to this truth.

In the near future, the Catholic Church in the US will have to remove all priests from being authorized by every state to perform legal marriages. We will become like European countries where couples go to the local town hall for their “legal” marriage service, and the next day get married by a priest in church. The first service fulfills the legal requirement, and the second service which is the Sacrament of Marriage fulfills the Catholic requirement.

No, they are not right on this one.

the American Bishops have been largely AWOL for the past 42 years in the fight against judicial activism and the run-away Court.

Perhaps in some fantasy world, the reality is different.

USCCB issued some liberal letter about their understanding of “collegialism” ... declared they are fairly independent from Rome. In the real world.

In someways the Catholic Church has helped bring this about. The Church has long supported socialism and social justice ignoring those groups support of abortion. The clergy has long been riddled with homosexuals and had sympathy for homosexuals and homosexual causes. Now the chickens have come home to roost.

Some perspective is important. The Church was been a steadfast opponent of gay unions. Instead, we now have mainline Lutheran and Episcopalian denominations allowing for married gay and lesbians pastors and bishops!

Talking about the sins of individuals is not the point being discussed here. We have Protestant pastors who have been convicted of rape, bigamy, and murder.

Some churches are good, and some are bad. That covers EVERY denomination - including your so called "only true church.".
When it comes to the races, it doesn't matter what color a person is either. They're either not an a$$, or they are an a$$.
