Polygamy Attorney On Gay Marriage Decision: SCOTUS Opinion ‘Resonates With Our Arguments’
The Daily Caller ^ | June 26, 2015 | Kerry Picket

Could Friday’s Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage across the country make polygamous marriage a legal reality nationwide in the near future?

Jonathan Turley, the attorney who won the polygamy marriage case in Utah for Kody Brown and his four “Sister Wives” thinks the majority opinion “resonates” with the arguments he made to the Utah Supreme Court to decriminalize polygamous consensual relationships.

“The cases are actually different in that the Brown case is about the criminalization while today’s case was about recognition. We have not argued for recognition of plural marriages. Indeed, the Browns have never asked for multiple marriage licenses,” Turley said in an e-mail statement to The Daily Caller.

“Like many plural families, they have one state license for one marriage but chose to live as a plural family with “spiritual marriages.” In that sense, our case is more like Lawrence v. Texas that was handed down ten years ago.”(continued)

Absolutely! You can count down to roughly 24 months before it hits the Supreme Court for episode two. “Happiness” is the deciding factor and you can’t deny me the right to have two or three wives.

The question will be...as the next case after that....can you even stop me at three wives or six wives? How will you determine any limit?

I’ll go ahead and predict by 2025....we’ve got a hundred guys around the US, who are married to twenty-plus women. All legit of course.

This is actually not as big a leap as same-sex “marriage” because polygamy, while illegal as far as being able to get a state license, actually has a meaning in language that would not be ignored and artificially altered, unlike the same-sex “marriage” ruling which required ignoring language.

It wouldn't be fair to stop at gay marriage. The Supreme Court has set things in motion. How can they say no to Polygamy when the 14th amendment allows it?

They’ll probably be very wealthy men, just like those in Muslim countries who now have the maximum allowed four wives. Women and children are expensive.

Besides, polygamy is legal in other countries. The Supreme Court has said that we must look to international law. Besides, Muslims do it, and we don’t want to offend Muslims.

Like Jeff Warren, Mormon. These are his wives, or most of them.

Hidden cameras reveal how US soldiers ‘shop’ for wives to get more pay, benefits
Oct. 2, 2014 at 4:42 AMJeff Rossen and Jovanna Billington
NBC News
It’s an open secret at military bases across the country: Soldiers looking for contract marriages. On Craigslist you’ll find dozens of ads, many so blatant that soldiers put the term right on the subject line, not even trying to hide it.

If you’re married in the military, you make more money and get better benefits. So soldiers from the Army, the Navy and all branches of the military pay women to marry them, just to get the perks on the taxpayer’s dime.

Jacobs, a military analyst for NBC News and MSNBC, says these soldiers aren’t looking for love; they want that marriage certificate. And it pays off: A married soldier can make tens of thousands of dollars more than a single one.

Rossen Reports producer Jovanna Billington was wired with hidden cameras for a meeting with the soldier who posted the ad, based at the Fort Stewart Army base in eastern Georgia.

The soldier, who is not being identified by NBC News, got right down to business. “You actually have to like write up an actual contract,” he said. “With all the parameters of what everybody wants.”

“So you’re getting more money from doing this?” Billington asked.

“Almost $1000 just for being married,” the soldier said. “And another $350 for BAS, which is base allowance for subsistence.”

“So you would want to do it like next week?” Billington asked.

“Well, if I could, I would do it today,” the soldier said. “We could just try to get this done.”

And what does the “wife” get out of the deal? “You get health care, and a lot more schools will take military spouses,” the soldier said. “If you need some money, then that’s not an issue.”

The soldier offered Billington $200 a month to start with: “Would that work for you? We’ll give you $200 for the first month just to start and then we’ll see how everything falls with bills and everything.”

“So this is a full business relationship, right?” Billington asked.

“You can see other people, you can do whatever you want,” the soldier said. “It’s like I’m not even here. You’re just getting free [stuff].”

“Commanders do not have the authority to prevent someone from getting married. Marriage is a personal, private decision, and “why” someone chooses to enter into a legal union is not a command issue. Rather, the issue is whether a service member can provide the necessary legal documents to the Service that he or she is married, thus entitling his/her spouse to dependent benefits.”

Just what we don't need to crash the system.

We already have serial polygamy.

Two wives and ex are collecting on one ss account.

One wife (other not married long enough) and one child from each marriage are collecting on my deceased son's ss account.

Multiply this by thousands and you can see what today's decision and what is yet to come will quickly bankrupt the system.

It's not just about non-existing "rights". It's also a matter of economics. And it won't bring in any more tax revenue.

How can they reconcile SSM with sharia law? Will mosques be exempt from orders to marry gays?

Well...you get tax credits for each spouse and child. A guy making $80,000 a year....would get a fair amount of credits for three wives and seven kids. Plus he could have one or two husbands as well.

I think it is. Bringham Young had 55 wives ( plus or minus). I’m only asking for 23 because he got started earlier in life.

Why not? You might as well make it carte blanche and allow any arrangement between any number of consenting adults to be considered legal, it's not any more silly than allowing two persons of the same sex to marry.
