Whether Ludendorff or one of his aides ever said "These Marines fight like Devil-dogs" is of no consequence.
That they fought with grace, skill and professionalism for the United States of America, as they did, is of great consequence. The origin of the term "Teufelhunde" may well be a myth. The bravery, skill and patriotism of the U.S. Marine Corps at Belleau Wood and in countless battles thereafter is not.
