Trump worship does the GOP no favors
WaPo ^ | 23 JUN 2015 | Jennifer Rubin

Too many pundits and pols on the right, marinated in a toxic mix of self-pity and obtuseness, are bemused or even enchanted by Donald Trump. Considering what Trump stands for and how he presents himself to voters, this is both alarming and confounding.

In the past he’s advocated a single-payer health care system (which even ObamaCare didn’t give us), called for massive tax increases, favored abortion rights, and revealed himself to be hyper-protectionist. Today he attacks those who want to reform Social Security and Medicare, the main threats to our fiscal future. He was a registered Democrat from 2001 to 2008. As of 2011, he had given a majority of his $1.3 million political contributions to Democrats, including Harry Reid. If that wasn’t enough, Trump has a fondness for conspiracy theories, from linking autism to vaccinations to being America’s most prominent birther. . . . For some, it seems, the attraction is found in the Trump style, which is precisely the concern. Mr. Trump’s announcement speech was rambling, vague, shallow, simplistic, insulting, ad hominem, and self-obsessed. He has no governing agenda and no governing philosophy; all he has is an attitude. And that attitude is crude and off-putting.

Trump is never, ever, never going to file FEC papers.

He gives 60% of his campaign monies to.... Democrats.

He is a modern day PT Barnum.

The author of the article is a liberal?

And she wants those who like Trump's positions, to get out of their right-wing bubble and talk to voters who are not in intellectually and physically in deep-red America?

??

And some, apparently you and others, believe Trump is also a liberal?

This is getting a bit confusing.

Trump's supporters will shrug this off because it as years ago and he said recently he supports the Second Amendment.

During a 2013 interview with Fox News, the real estate mogul defined himself as, “a very strong person on the Second Amendment.” He believes guns are necessary for self-defense and has written that he generally opposes gun control. In his 2000 book, “The America We Deserve” Trump wrote that he supports a ban on assault weapons and a slightly longer waiting period to buy a gun.

But just 2 years ago in 2013, Trump praised his fellow gun-grabber Michael Bloomberg. Who would do that but another gun-grabber?

I am no Trump supporter, however he did say what needed to be said. Mexico has been e,porting some of their worst criminals and low lives to this country.
As for the Latino votes, I have me Dr lost any sleep over it. Most Latinos will vote Democrat, just as most blacks will.vote Democrat. It’s no use pandering to Latinos, annoying conservatives and getting conservative essentially to stay home on droves. That is a lose lose proposition, not to mention stupid.

Yes, a big RINO and GOP-E supporter. Rubin likely supports Jeb.

This is a smear job with a little bit of truthiness sprinkled in. Trump is a protectionist, pro-abortion rabble-rouser. But “conspiracy theorist” is a phrase invented by the CIA—a rhetorical weapon against people who ask questions.

And the “birth certificate” is a crude, amateur-level forgery, bearing the typefaces of half-a-dozen typewriters. Wherever he was born, Obama is not the son of Obama from Kenya.

I think Frank Marshall Davis is Hussein’s father. And I also believe the bastard child was born in Kenya. But I’m not running for president and I don’t believe anyone who is can question the Marxist Kenyan’s birth and get elected.

A GOP that genuflects toward Trump, grouses about being obliged to take down the Confederate flag, celebrates “self-deportation” and thinks compromise and civility are for losers is not one with a prayer of getting to the White House.

Now I understand, when candidate John McCain forbade his supporters from using Barack Obama's middle name, he was not being simple enough and therefore lost the election.

As long as Jennifer Rubin defines the qualifications for a Republican we are doomed both lose elections and to lose the country. If "self-deportation" is somehow an election loser then the tsunami of immigrant voters pulling Democrat levers will be not just an election loser but a prelude to real tyranny.

I don't recall the press noticing this about Obama. And seeing as how Obama was elected, twice, it appears this formula is a winning one.

Nobody worships Trump or any other GOP candidate the way Marxists worship their messiah. He sure gets under their skin though.

If he put that on his college application (and I believe he did) then he shall be called the Kenyan.

Very astute summation

Trump says all the right things, the right way for the right reason(s)

He was not silent when the rebuilding of the WTC took so long to even get off the drawing board .... and his commentary was always ... "I know how to build things, correctly and quickly"

He may be an asshole, and he may not be 100% correct in his decisions (like, some mortal IS ?) ... but I think we can accept he CAN build.
