Should all statues of Confederate figures as well as mascots and banners associated with the Confederacy be retired?
That's the question members of Congress are being confronted with a day after the move by South Carolina Republican Gov. Nikki Haley to remove the Confederate flag from the state capitol grounds. Haley's call was supported by other state elected officials like Sens. Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott, both Republicans, and Rep. James Clyburn, a Democrat.

I think this is a good project for Congress. What symbols should be delcared odious across the fruited plains? Congress can’t outright ban, see 1st amendment, but it can certainly pontificate its sense.
This is a losing argument in so many ways. Get it over with and move things to a museum and lets get back to addressing things like ObamaTrade, ObamaCare, illegal alien amnesty, etc.
All of this just because some stupid Democrats in the 50s and 60s appropriate this flag for their splinter party.
Prior to the 50s the CSA flags were just curious items from a long-ago war that no one on either side really thought much of other than during some anniversary celebration. I’ve yet to read of a former Union solider that pitched a fit seeing one. Everyone seemed happy to just let it be a “cute” symbol of Dixie. In fact it was such a non-thing that even after the 60s it caused no uproar when it appeared on campaign buttons for Jimmy Carter, and Bill Clinton or on the top of the General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard, a car that kids of all races wanted to own.
But now, because some goons use it along with the American flag for their little rallies and anti-social behavior, it’s just too much for our stomachs, and now everything needs to go? FOR WHAT???

We’ve seen all of this before with Stalinist purges and Nazi book burnings. Pick a scapegoat; isolate it; and, make it the target of state-sanctioned hate and retaliation. In today’s incarnation, the scapegoats are Southern whites; their history; and their heritage. Is anyone surprised? This is all orchestrated by the Obama administration and his media co-conspirators. It’s pure, unadulterated Saul Alinsky. Ask yourself this question, what if the SC shooter had been an admirer of MLK? Would the response have been the same? There’s your answer.

The attack on the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia and other historic symbols of Southern heritage is a PC cultural cleansing much like the cultural cleansing being conducted by ISIS against symbols the don’t like. It is from the same mentality that wants to cleans society of other symbols some people don’t like, such as the move by atheists and other PC adherents to cleans public areas of Christian symbols.
