The Army of Northern Virginia was one of the main armies of the Confederacy. It was named after the region it mainly operated in. It contained regiments from every southern state, including a number from South Carolina.
A number of freepers have told me that the region of northern Virgina "doesn't count" as part of the "real" Virginia, and people who live up there are "part of yankeeland"
