America: One Nation, Indivisible
National Review ^ | 6/23/2015 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 06/23/2015 4:28:41 AM PDT by Servant of the Cross

The Confederate battle flag is far from the only worrisome symbol in America today.

Everyone is weighing in on the horrific murders in Charleston and blaming the mindset of the mass murderer on wider social pathologies. After the airing of the racist crackpot ideas of the unhinged Dylann Roof, calls have gone out to ban the public flying of the battle flag of the Old Confederacy, which has also been incorporated in various forms in four state flags. Perhaps we should step back and eschew symbolism that separates us by race rather than unites us as fellow citizens. (snip)

But perhaps we should not stop there, given increasing ethnic tensions and widening racial fault lines. There are plenty of other overt racialist symbols that separate Americans. One is the prominent use of La Raza, “The Race” — seen most prominently in the National Council of La Raza, an ethnic lobbying organization that has been and is currently a recipient of federal funds. (snip)

One wonders why in 2015 there is still nomenclature such as “the Congressional Black Caucus,” over half a century after the civil-rights movement sought to promote integration and the idea that Americans should be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin.. The Caucus ostensibly seeks to ensure the end of exclusion by race from full participation in American society by creating a lobbying group focused entirely on one particular race.

"Reexamination of the battle flag offers us a teachable moment." What's good for the Confederate battle flag is good for LaRaza and the Congressional Black Caucus.

But ... don't expect the divider-in-chief to support that effort.

Racist is an interesting word, after all who are the real racists? A person that loves their race, is proud of all it’s accomplishments, wants to live with their own kind and preserve their heritage. Or is a racist someone that is trying to destroy someones heritage through mass foreign immigration, diversity, multiculturalism and race mixing?

The term “racism” was invented by communists. Leon Trotsky was one of the first to use it. When whites engage in favoritism toward other whites (and therefore discrimination against non-whites), it’s called “racism”. When other groups engage in favoritism, it’s called “ethnic solidarity”. When you buy into these word games, it’s called being a useful idiot.

Bingo. In my city, people are already calling for the Stalinist-type removal of statues of Confederate generals, etc.

The ‘goodness’ of Dr. Hanson shows through.

But I think sometimes the good professor is too naïve, we won’t see the same goodness in everybody.

Symbolism over substance from the liberals again.

This is right up there with hashtags and ‘coexist’ bumper stickers: accomplishing nothing but making an arrogant liberal feel self-satisfied and self-righteous for a few seconds.

Yep, it is the same here in Tennessee. They want to change History, just make things good in “La La Land”. Next they will want to come after our GUNS and the 2nd Amendment!!!

“The bust of a Confederate general and leading figure in the early days of the Ku Klux Klan should be removed from the Tennessee statehouse, top Tennessee Democrats and the state Republican Party chairman said Monday.

U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper, D-Tenn., and state House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh, D-Ripley, said the bust of Nathan Bedford Forrest has no place in the Tennessee statehouse.

“Symbols of hate should not be promoted by government. South Carolina should remove the Confederate battle flag from its Capitol, and Tennessee should remove the bust of Forrest inside our Capitol,” Cooper said in a statement to The Tennessean.”

Honestly, sometimes I think we SHOULD get rid of those symbols and at least move them somewhere where we can protect them (until such time as we need them again). They are our history and I’d hate (oops!) to see them destroyed.

The left remind me of the Taliban destroying the artifacts of the ancient culture in their region.

"Indivisible?" Hardly.

Mark this down: in a decade or two, or less, we will witness the breakup of America.

Oh, it might be de facto rather than de jure, but it's already happening. Examples include states legalizing marijuana and the manufacture of guns "not in interstate commerce".
