Vast Ramifications in Senate Obamatrade Vote Tuesday
Center for Immigration Studies ^ | June 22nd, 2015 | By Jessica Vaughan

Tomorrow the Senate will have to vote again whether to give President Obama fast-track authority to negotiate trade agreements that will have an enormous impact on the U.S. economy and future job prospects for U.S. workers — and significantly constrain congressional authority over U.S. immigration policy.

Republican leaders, who seem curiously eager to facilitate this deal for the president, have bent over backwards to assure the many skeptical Republican members that neither Trade Promotion Authority (TPA, or "fast-track" authority) nor the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) pact, which would be the next trade agreement to be rushed through the approval process on an up or down vote without possibility of amendments, includes or allows changes to immigration or visa law.

Some might be willing to trust our leaders on that, but in fact the biggest danger is not that the TPA bill and the TPP treaty make direct changes to immigration law. The biggest danger lies in the other deals that the president's team is working on. Provisions in these deals do change immigration laws, and also would prevent Congress from adjusting immigration laws that are currently being abused. That is the very goal of all trade pacts — to lock in open access to markets under current or more favorable terms, so that it cannot be changed. (For more on the implications of trade agreements for immigration law, see here.)

From the Sessions letter “by all accounts TPP has not even attempted to serve as a reciprocal trade deal.”

Crickets from all the FR “free traders”.

I'm not a big, noisy supporter, but I'm still behind him, and also generally support the idea of 'fast track' as it regards treaties.

From previous posts on this subjects:

You pretty much need "fast track" in order to get any negotiated treaty passed, because you can't have a finished treaty be amended by congress, since that would require that version to be resubmitted back to the treaty partners for approval.

That said, it doesn't remove the Constitutional necessity of having a 2/3 majority to approve them.

Calling them "trade agreements" to get around the 2/3 requirements rather than simply having up/down votes on them as treaties is dishonest. Of course anyone who looks for honesty from our government is a fool who will ultimately be disappointed. Our feral government will do what it wants, when it wants to get what will most quickly enrich the oligarchy.

I think Cruz would have done better to have fought this from the perspective of this undermining of Constitutional authority. That would put him clearly on the side of supporting a 'fast track' provision for treaty negotiations, while at the same time opposing this particular legislation because it undermines the Constitution and the Senate's advice and consent powers/requirements.

In this particular case, what I'm saying is that these "agreements" easily pass the 'duck' test, being as how they walk, quack, and even fly like a duck. The senate should enforce the constitution by admitting the things are ducks, and handling them appropriately.

Simply calling it a "trade agreement" does not make it anything other than a treaty given the ramifications of the document.

TPA fast-track just passed the Senate. I am so done with these stinking so-called Republicans acting like they don’t own the two houses of Congress right now. Reid and Pelosi still run the show with Boehner and McConnell’s help.

This Obama trade deal is a trojan horse. It’s disguised as “free trade” What It really allows is for Obama to flood the USA with an unlimited number of 3rd world immigrants ...
http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/immigration/item/20710-obama-gop-trade-scheme-includes-unrestricted-immigration

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2015/04/dick_morris_fast_track_could_lead_to_unlimited_immigration.html

This Fast track gives Obama power to make treaties that override U.S. laws. It’s the destruction of the republic. It gives obama unlimited dictatorial power to destroy the U.S. Proof here :

http://getliberty.org/oppose-trade-authority-for-obama-on-pacific-trade-deal/
http://www.conservativehq.com/node/20233 .

Obama has been working on this TPP obamatrade agreement for at least 5 years in Secret.
Congress just voted to give Obama fast track trade promotion authority to pass this horrendous trojan horse secret agreement. That means that Congress cannot even debate about this nor add amendments and only 51% of the vote is needed to pass it instead of the usual 60% needed (cloture) .

This TPP is something that the left and Obama have been crafting for 5 years and now gets no debate and cannot even seen by the American people only after they shove it down our throat.

They voted to let Obama act like a dictator to pass this country destroying TPP. So Obama gets to pass his own law in which the left have crafted MANY ways to get around U.S. immigration law. They call it “trade in services” which is really Obama’s immigration agenda. If you read these links you’ll see all this is true. One link is from Jeff Sessions
