~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Coast Guard Island, Alameda, California

Base Alameda is located on Coast Guard Island in Alameda, California and is home to a variety of tenant commands: Pacific Area and Defense Force West; Eleventh District; Maritime Intelligence Fusion Center Pacific (MIFCPAC), Sector San Francisco Prevention; Pacific Regional Fisheries Training Center (former Training Team West); Maritime Safety Security Team 91105; and homeport for three National Security Coast Guard Cutters: CGC BERTHOLF, the CGC WAESCHE and the CGC STRATTON.

Originally known as Government Island, this artificial island was formed in 1913 by the dredging project that extended the Oakland Estuary to San Leandro Bay. The Coast Guard first came to the island in 1926 when it established "Base 11" under an Executive Order signed in September 1931 that gave title to a 15-acre tract for a permanent base.

Improvements were started at that time and by 1933 included streets, utilities, spur tracks, a trestle bridge from Oakland, a transformer station, and rebuilding of the existing wharves. The cost was more than one and a half million dollars and provided facilities for Base 11 and the Coast Guard Store (warehouses).

Established 15 February 2012, Base Alameda provides a wide variety of services in direct support of Coast Guard activities throughout the West Coast. Base Alameda departments are Procurement and Contracting, Comptroller/Base Operations, Health Services and Work Life, Personnel Support, Facilities Engineering.

Personnel Support includes the management of approx 700 CG-owned Housing units, transportation of household goods, the Child Development Center (CDC), Morale, Recreation and Welfare (MWR), and personnel support services. Facilities maintenance is provided to all tenant commands and detached units on Coast Guard Island Alameda, and industrial support is provided throughout the West Coast.

Well there were four of us and if one walked out we’d all have to go. It was a fun story but wow! Why do people who write the screen play think that putting all that vile language would enhance the film?

Good Evening Kathy.

I would not live there either. I’ll keep my earnings, thank you very much.

Good movie review, thanks!
.40 S&W is a good carry weapon. Good choice!

Thanks. Yeh, that movie had a cute story line but good grief! Just about every word out of their mouths both men and women were the “F” word and the “MF” word and the “C” word. I like Jason Statham one of my favorite actors but he couldn’t say two words without “MF” or “C” ... and the women were just as bad. My suggestion is if that sort of language bothers you don’t go see “Spy” - check it out on internet search.

PS - yeah I like that S&W - had a hard time trying to load the magazine. I need some sort of compressor to push down the feed to load it. It fits my hand really nice. My other pistol is a Beretta Tomcat in .32 which I carry concealed. The Smith will be my car gun. Both of them are my “don’t mess with me” safety.

I think vile language is a sign of lack of vocabulary.

No pink .40?

I bought my daughter a purple Taurus .380; her color preference.
