A record 21.7 million American kids get free or reduced-price lunch during at school. But when summer vacation starts, the vast majority of them go without this essential, federally funded benefit. Fewer than 4 million kids -- or just 18% of those in the school lunch program -- are fed through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's summer food program. While that's a record number for the 40-year-old initiative, many advocates and government officials say more needs to be done. "In the summer, when those school meals disappear, children find themselves hungry and with few options," said Duke Storen, a senior director at Share Our Strength, which aims to end child hunger. "It impacts their health and well-being and contributes to learning loss."

Our church feeds the kids breakfast and dinners all year long. If kids need food I’m sure it’s available somewhere.
I don’t know about other cities Los Angeles unified school district is having meal serve even during the summer vacations in lot of districts
Equally valid headline: millions of so called adults irresponsibly produce offspring they can’t feed.
so why don’t their parents use those free food stamps and EBT cards and buy them some food ???

If they’re going to feed them during summer - than there should be deductions made from the parents food stamps....minimal - but they shouldn’t get full benefits AND kids fed free -
They should share in the accountability -
OR, they should do ‘volunteer work’ at the school cafeterias

Most kids I see nowadays are either too fat or normal for age. Where are all these starving kids? Why doesn’t CNN wait to publish these phony sob stories until after a conservative is president? Are they trying to architect a phony topic for the 2016 election, just like StepOnAllOfUs did in the 2012 election?
It is all our problem because we pay for it and it further assures millions of permanently dependent Rat voters.
Most kids have parents or family. And there’s a huge obesity problem too
It is literally impossible for a child to go hunger in this country with the abundant overlapping programs offered by the fed, state, county and local churches ...
The only way for a child to go hungry is for their parents to be either a druggie, a drunken or mentally retarded...
