I have a Nephew who used to have a “Florida Native” tag on the front of his car. Now he has Florida ancestors going back to at least the 1700s but he was born in Illinois. His Father was also born in Illinois. I thought it was funny.
Well, frankly, for most of this country’s history, people used to self-identify by the state they were from, rather than through a national lens. You were a Texan, a Virginian, a Kansan, etc.
I’m finding it more and more preferable, as the all-encompassing “America” is becoming a country is transforming into something I’d not particularly desire to associate myself with.
