The democrats of the 19th Century were states rights, pro-family, pro-2nd amendments, pro-God. The democrat party of the 19th Century absolutely can not be compared to the democrats of the last 50 years or so. In the second half of the 20th century the roles of the GOP and democrats have completely reversed.

The PROTESTERS will have WON! That is the point! The people voted some time ago to keep the flag, but P.C. weaklings are willing to comply with ANYTHING someone causes a stir over. God Help this Country!!!Whatever happened to redblooded Americans!

I’m a Good Ol’ Rebel

So let's me see if I've got it straight. You hate this country. You hate the Constitution. You hate the Declaration of Independence. You hate Yankees. You also hate the Freedman's Bureau but that's kind of a moot point now. Did I miss anything?

Why stop at the Confederate Battle Flag? Perhaps we can persuade the leftists to go after the Massachusetts state flag:

I'm sure that Indians, excuse me, Native Americans would like this flag taken down given that Massachusetts settlers either killed most of the Native Americans in their state or sold them into slavery. And yet here is an Native American on their flag. Are they commemorating what they did to Native Americans? What if South Carolina had a painting of slaves picking cotton as the only thing on their state flag?

For those not familiar with Massachusetts history, here is a description of the Pequot War [Link 1]:

On May 26, 1637, with a force up to about 400 fighting men, Mason attacked Misistuck by surprise. He estimated that "six or seven Hundred" Pequot were there when his forces assaulted the palisade. As some 150 warriors had accompanied Sassacus to Hartford, so the inhabitants remaining were largely Pequot women and children, and older men. Mason ordered that the enclosure be set on fire.

Justifying his conduct later, Mason declared that the attack against the Pequot was the act of a God who "laughed his Enemies and the Enemies of his People to scorn making [the Pequot] as a fiery Oven... Thus did the Lord judge among the Heathen, filling [Mystic] with dead Bodies."[16] Mason insisted that any Pequot attempting to escape the flames should be killed. Of the estimated 600 to 700 Pequot resident at Mystic that day, only seven survived to be taken prisoner, while another seven escaped to the woods.[17]

Then there was King Philip's War (1675-76). From Pilgrim Hall Museum [Link 2]:

The outcome of King Philip’s War was devastating to the traditional way of life for Native People in New England. Hundreds of Natives who fought with Philip were sold into slavery abroad. Others, especially women and children, were forced to become servants locally.

And from History.com [Link 3]:

The war ended in August 1676, shortly after Metacom was captured and beheaded. Some of his supporters escaped to Canada; those who surrendered were shipped off as slaves to the West Indies. The Puritans interpreted their victory as a sign of God’s favor, as well as a symbolic purge of their spiritual community. The Indians who remained faced servitude, disease, cultural disruption, and the expropriation of their lands.

Another site [Link 4] says the colonists put the head of Metacom/Metacomet [aka King Philip] on a pike and kept it displayed that way for 20 years.

After the Pilgrims' arrival, Native Americans in New England grew increasingly frustrated with the English settlers' abuse and treachery. Metacomet (King Philip), a son of the Wampanoag sachem known as the Massasoit (Ousamequin), called upon all Native people to unite to defend their homelands against encroachment. The resulting "King Philip's War" lasted from 1675-1676. Metacomet was murdered in Rhode Island in August 1676, and his body mutilated. His head was impaled on a pike and was displayed near this site for more than 20 years. One hand was sent to Boston, the other to England. Metacomet's wife and son, along with the families of many of the Native American combatants, were sold into slavery in the West Indies by the English victors".

I guess the Massachusetts folk were just practicing for their later rampage through the South. Perhaps the Native American on the Massachusetts flag should have a ball and chain around his leg.

“it represents a movement that fought to preserve and expand slavery at a time with the civilized world was turning away from it”.

Slavery was a dying institution and would have died out. But Lincoln could not afford to let the Southern states break away. Too much money would have been lost.

The Confederate Constitution specifically said NO MORE SLAVES WOULD BE IMPORTED.

Lincoln didn’t give a rat’s ass about slaves and said it in his official papers many times. Slavery only became an issue for him in the 2nd year of the war when he needed a “moral” reason to keep his Army fighting. England was also getting ready to side with the Confederacy and he knew if he made the war about slavery and the “rights of man” England would not offer support to the South. It’s about time the real Lincoln was taught in American high schools, if they even teach American history any longer.

Listen DD. I’ve already explained it to you. The NORTH (The FED) AFTER THE WAR STARTED (1863) declared all SOUTHERN slaves free which bankrupted the southern states. They saw it coming. The YANKEE SLAVE HOLDERS INCLUDING BLACK SLAVEHOLDERS were NOT affected. Their SLAVES remained SLAVES. Yankees, not southerners made FORTUNES off the Slave trade as did FOREIGN companies.

Had the south, an agricultural economy, been recompensed for their losses so that they could buy agricultural machinery at UNTAXED(Tariff) prices, the war would never have happened. The War of Northern Aggression was exactly that! Northern Aggression and they succeeded, i.e. the CARPETBAGGERS!

Going on the defensive is the GOP’s classic mistake. The correct response should have been, “Roof would have committed these murders with or without a flag. In view of that, and the fact that it is a part of the state’s history, we’re going to let cooler heads prevail and keep it where it is.”

Every time a grievance groups says “Jump”, Republicans are ready to say, “How high?” I’m sick of it.

For better or worse it's still my country and I love it. I love the sheer poetry of the Declaration of Independence. I love and respect the Constitution. And I'm kind of wondering why you're still here since you seem to agree with Innes Randolph.

You keep changing your point ... my head spins from your wanderings. You said it was about losing 1st Amendment rights ... but then it’s pointed out you didn’t actually lose any rights ... so now it’s the protesters won. Um, it was South Carolinians who were saying the flag should come down. So now, you’re saying protesters shouldn’t be heard? Um, well you know, that’s also protected speech. Sometimes our voices are heard by elected officials ... sometimes they’re not.

And curious ... what color of skin does a ‘redblooded American’ have? South Carolina seems to be a melting pot of ‘Americans’ ... black, white, brown ... you name it ... seems like there are a lot of different folks calling for the flag to come down. To look to the future and not look at the past.

A past filled w/ treasonous actions ... might I just add ... of folks who did not want to be part of the Union of States we all Call America. You know ... the UNITED States of America.

Just saying ... perhaps you need to take some time to reflect on how we move forward and quit looking at a past that very few folks want to go back to.

You can't love and respect the Constitution if you brag about hating it either.

If you think a well known historical song is a hate crime, I suggest you call Valerie Jarrett at the White House. She's got a job for you.
