Please tell me how Thurmond starting moving “leftward”.
In 1978, Thurmond joined Howard Baker in supporting the failed constitutional amendment to make D.C. the 51st state. I don’t have the other leftward voters but they trickled in thereafter. He did though stand firm on right to life and military preparedness.
