so glad to see the Sunday talk show go up a bit early.

Yah, well, don't get used to it! :-)

I got up at the crack of dawn, the LONGEST day of the year, to do some outside planting.

My English peas are all spent, and I left the vines on the huge pea fence I built to dry out some peas for planting next year... The peas I grew this year was a variety called "Alderman" and/or "Tall Telephone". Were they ever! About 6-7 feet long vines loaded over with long fat pods.

I'm used to growing earlier peas that bush or only vine a little and then produce a big crop all at once. Easier to pick.

But I love peas. Ever have them fresh off the vine instead of canned, even frozen? Like a whole 'nother plant--sweeter, tastier, smoother--like sweet corn on the cob is to frozen corn...

I was a little dubious planting Alderman because they don't fruit all at once but over a longer period of time. However, this wound up suiting my needs better, because if you pick several bushels of peas you've got to shuck them right away or they go starchy. And shucking is a lot of work.

Also, the alderman variety has a reputation for handling heat and humidity. I planted these in February so early in the season that wasn't a problem but I had no die back like I usually do but they kept at it until a couple of weeks ago when we reached our normal steady 90's for the summer.

ANYWAY, I had to do some road trips in late April and most of May, so I didn't plant my cucumber seeds until the end of May. Transplanting tender seedlings in the Alabama heat is often a problem, but I dug these cukes right into the feet and cool shade of the dying peas. Lots of water, and they can start climbing the pea vines to get a head start.

So I'm done before it gets hot, but the damn mosquitoes ate me alive!

And no, this isn't the gardening thread, but It's Father's Day and I'm a father so I can do whatever I want today!

Happy Fathers' Day, all you Daddies!!!

I watched bits and pieces of most of the shows and got a taste of what the DNC talking points on today's shows were.

HERE'S A LIST"

1.It's still white on black gun violence and blacks still get a free ride.

2.Guns kill not people, get rid of the guns.

3.The Confederate flag must go along with Christians and anything that reminds folks of how the country was founded or our history.

4.It's OK to vote for Hillary or Jeb Bush only 4% of voters are concerned. The manipulation of statistics is now SOP for the hard left/DBM and is never to be questioned.

5.The Saudis are killing innocents in Yemen. Doesn't matter that Iran is behind it all and wishes to take over the entire region only that collateral damage exists and it's the Saudis/America's fault.

6.Global warming is real. Only a fool would not believe. Ignore the true stats that the earth has really been cooling in recent years and change the name to climate change. Make it the number one issue since it sounds so benign but really is a perfect vehicle to take over nation after nation.

There are others but the above are certainly DNC chatting points for today.
