n response to a spate of deadly shootings across the United States in recent days, President Barack Obama noted that gun violence is a far more drastic problem in the US than Israel.

On Saturday evening, Obama tweeted: "Here are the stats: Per population, we kill each other with guns at a rate 297x more than Japan, 49x more than France, 33x more than Israel."

Why compare the nuts in the US to Israel???

Israel is one of the safest countries in the world because most citizens have military training, know how to hit the deck and return fire.
What a stupid comparison, Israel crime to American crime. Only a jerk would do such a thing...

Israeli crime falls into one of two categories: 1. Arab terror, and 2. regular criminal activity.

American crime can be terrorists, nuts getting back at their girlfriend, nuts trying to start a race war, nuts getting back at their boss, nuts obsessed with grammar, or regular criminality, or crazy kids getting even with bullies who don’t like their Goth getup, just to mention a few.

Israel has less nuts, and more combat veterans. Of course we have less crime.

Not zero, but subtract the black-on-black and black-on-white homicides from the US totals and the overall US homicide rate per 100,000 is about the same as Norway's.

Interestingly, Norway's mass-shooting death rate per 100,000 population over the last 5 years has been much higher than the US -- Google Anders Breivik.

Most developed countries have occasional mass shootings by deranged individuals. The desire to free range crazy people is hardly unique to the US. Israel's mass shooting death rate per 100,000 population is at least as high as the US. The US has more mass shootings than Israel and Norway but its population is 40 x Israel's and 60 x Norway's.

No politician today seems to want to talk about the extremely high homicide rate is black neighborhoods. That's guaranteed to never fix the problem.

Israel's overall homicide rate is 1.8/100,000. The US rate is 4.7/100,000. More than double, but not 33 x. If you subtract the 1/2 of all US homicides committed by US blacks, the US rate among its non-black population is 1/2 of 4.7 or 2.35/100,000.

Norway's murder rate is roughly the same at 2.2/100,000.

Russia's murder rate is 9.2/100,000 and Mexico's is 21.5/100,000. Both much higher.
