BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- 10-year-old Lily Hornish loves fishing. So her family took her on a trip to Ketchikan, Alaska, in the hope of catching a halibut.

But the shy angler wasn't expecting to catch one so big.

"It was the first bait down, then my pole was tugging," Lily said. "I started reeling it in and then my dad helped me. And then a big fish came out."

A big fish that weighed 333 pounds, to be exact.

I bet she went fishing just for no good reason at all.

Just for the halibut?

Wow! Great story!

Apparentlt she's been praying the Angler's Prayer:

"Lord, give me the grace to catch a fish
So big, that even I
When telling of it afterward
May never need to lie!"

Good for her. It’s a lot of work to catch a FIFTY pound halibut!

Upshoot was they were hooking into Halibut, big ones, who pulled them in and down.

And with the water not much warmer than freezing, ya don't gotta be down for very long before you're down and out.

I’ve never fished for them. I have friends who have and brought them home. They were delicious.

I fish a lot for walleyes. I prefer the 1 to 1 and a half pounders. Bigger ones just don’t taste as sweet. I’ve caught 4 - 8 pounders and I turn them loose.

Here’s my question. Do 70 pound halibut taste better than 333 pounders?

Only if dad’s around.

I’d rather be fishing for the halibut than trying to tunafish

I’d be happy with a 33 pounder.

I watched an Irish woman on a cooking show land, then on the dock beautifully dismantle and then perfectly small-filet a 4lb halibut.. then arrange it masterfully on a platter.. then served raw with lemon juice and butter. What a bring-down.

My son in law caught some in the 125lb range and they tasted great. Mine tasted great 35-75lbs, but I’d guess 300 pounders aren’t as tasty.

Sure beats the flatties on the Gulf Coast.

...you're gonna need a bigger boat.

The largest fish I ever caught was a six pound large mouth.

It was difficult to land. I can’t even imagine a fish that big.

LOL! Absolutely.

Many years ago my daughter was 5 or 6 and I took her fishing from the shore at Convict Lake in the Sierras.

She caught two trout to my none and after landing # two she looked at me and said “Daddy it’s your turn.”

I’ve never forgotten that or the look in her eyes.

I would guess since the flatfish mostly burrow into the sand waiting for prey instead of chasing it all over their water body everyday they’d be tender even at monster size than the harder-working ‘regular’ fish.
