** Papal encyclicals are generally fairly long documents containing a variety of points about one or more issues. Some or all of these points are often about things that are beyond the scope of papal infallibility, dealing with things other than faith or morals, or being directed to some segment of the church. Traditionally, encyclicals are circular letters addressed only to the bishops of the Church. They tend to be discussions of some pressing matter at hand.**

So are you saying they allow for public dissent?

Look for the word “debate” in the document. He said the whole matter is open to debate.

No, the pope and co. did not write almost 44,000 words simply of debatable opinion, but makes multiple statements and exhortations based upon the premise that such things as Climate Change are real, and that certain things are facts, though he allows and encourages debate in dealing with such, and that "on many concrete questions, the Church has no reason to offer a definitive opinion...But we need only take a frank look at the facts to see that our common home is falling into serious disrepair." - http://w2.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/encyclicals/documents/papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-laudato-si.html

Reading the Encyclical up through the third para has me slapping my forehead already and saying "This is nuts."

Upon what BASIS does he make these claims: "Now, faced as we are with global environmental deterioration"?

It is China and 3rd world countries that are figurative cesspools ...

A ‘holy war’? Like a jihad? Now where have I heard that before?

They must watch PBS.

Other quotes:

A very solid scientific consensus indicates that we are presently witnessing a disturbing warming of the climatic system. In recent decades this warming has been accompanied by a constant rise in the sea level and, it would appear, by an increase of extreme weather events, even if a scientifically determinable cause cannot be assigned to each particular phenomenon.

Warming has effects on the carbon cycle. It creates a vicious circle which aggravates the situation even more, affecting the availability of essential resources like drinking water, energy and agricultural production in warmer regions, and leading to the extinction of part of the planet’s biodiversity. The melting in the polar ice caps and in high altitude plains can lead to the dangerous release of methane gas, while the decomposition of frozen organic material can further increase the emission of carbon dioxide.

We require a new and universal solidarity. .

Which sounds similar to,

To manage the global economy; to revive economies hit by the crisis; to avoid any deterioration of the present crisis and the greater imbalances that would result; to bring about integral and timely disarmament, food security and peace; to guarantee the protection of the environment and to regulate migration: for all this, there is urgent need of a true world political authority ,

Furthermore, such an authority would need to be universally recognized and to be vested with the effective.... authority to ensure compliance with its decisions from all parties,

They also require the construction of a social order that at last conforms to the moral order, to the interconnection between moral and social spheres, and to the link between politics and the economic and civil spheres, as envisaged by the Charter of the United Nations.” - ENCYCLICAL LETTER CARITAS IN VERITATE

I really think the fact that Pope Benedict stepped down to let this man take power was of major significanc

The last day always figured to have a false Pope...and no Pope has ever before taking power with a previous Pope still alive..

I think God did this for a reason letting the previous Pope be alive as a mercy for Catholics because they have to endure a false prophet a there head.

I think the letters of Fatima basically told Benedick he had to step down for a while for this false prophet...and Benedict will be back after...

in other words the Catholic Church will never be truly leaderless during this time even though there will be a false man in office...

and Benedick would know whoever assume the office after him would be the false one....

after all Christ knew who would betray him even be before Judas knew.. and Christ let it happen because it was part of God plan

The Pope is an economic illiterate. His head is stuffed with a lot of Leftist claptrap. He knows NOTHING about authentic economic thought.

By Papal standards, he is an uneducated man. He is a boor and a rube. He is almost monolingual.

His “humility” is a pose. He is cruel and unjust. He is ruthless and spiteful. He is a transparent phony.

He is the worst Pope in several centuries. May his reign be very, very short!

I hope you are joking. I.e., I hope you are not that abjectly ignorant of the Catholic understanding of the Pope’s authority.

>>Look for the word “debate” in the document. He said the whole matter is open to debate.<<

I can find 12 instances of the word "debate" in the encyclical and none of them indicate he believes that global warming is under debate. The "debate" is it's affects on different entities. Please show which instance you thought was a "debate" about whether it was real or not.
