Without saying so specifically, the author of the posted article is reminding us that the next president will likely be appointing at least one, or perhaps even more, new justices to the SCOTUS to fill vacancies caused by deaths or retirements of the aging current ones. It bears repeating, but just as usual, the composition of the future Supreme Court is likely at stake in the 2016 presidential election.

If Hillary is elected next year, that truly signals the end of the Republic. Justices Kennedy, Thomas and Scalia are well on in years, and their replacement with clones of Elena Kagan will be beyond disastrous for the rule of law in this country.

True. Some pundits predict Ginsberg will “retire” before the end of O’s term to give him an opportunity to appoint an ultra-lib to the court in her place. Time will tell.
