Swing-state polls suggest Rubio could be trouble for Clinton [FL, OH, PA]

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio appears to be giving Hillary Clinton the best competition among Republican presidential contenders in his home state and in Pennsylvania, in the latest Quinnipiac University poll of swing states released Wednesday.

In a set of hypothetical 2016 matchups, Rubio draws closest to overtaking Clinton in two of the three states, including Florida and Pennsylvania. In Ohio, Gov. John Kasich prevails in a head-to-head matchup.

By a count of 47 percent to 44 percent, Sunshine State voters said that they would support Clinton over Rubio in a hypothetical presidential matchup. Just 42 percent backed Jeb Bush, compared with 46 percent for Clinton in that hypothetical matchup, with both responses within the margin of error.

By varying margins, voters in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania back Clinton over Bush, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. It’s not all rosy for Clinton, however. At the same time, by margins of eight to 14 percentage points, voters say that Clinton is not trustworthy.

“This is where Democrats almost always fare better than Republicans. Yet in this survey many Republican candidates do as well or better than does she,” said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac Poll.

The worst news for Clinton in this poll comes from Ohio, where she trailed Kasich 47 percent to 40 percent and split with Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, at 43 percent each. Clinton also grabbed 42 percent, compared with Bush’s 41 percent, well within the margin of error.

Be careful posting anything “pro-Rubio” on here. You will, most likely, be excoriated and called a “troll”.

No problem, we can agree to disagree on him. If you check his FL record as a state legislator, you will see that he has alway supported illegals over citizens. The Gang of Eight was not an anomaly. As speaker he blocked over 30 bills to protect citizens vs. illegals.

I especially don’t like the fact that he thought the voters were stupid enough that he could say one thing on Spanish tv and another thing on English speaking tv.

Just as important....I have yet to see Rubio take a firm stand on anything (other than amnesty). Has he ever bucked McConnell and the current leadership? He is another status quo guy, who really does nothing but try to win the press conference.

Compare how he interacts with the rest of the GOP “leadership” with Cruz or Palin.

Likewise, he has alway been quick to endorse RINOs and get on board with the GOPe when they tell him to get in line. See the endorsement of McConnell, Romney.

I just think he is an empty suit that does whatever will benefit him the most.

On a 1-10 RINO scale, with 10 being the highest (Jeb Bush/Lindsay Graham) I’d rate Rubio around a 7. My biggest problem with him is his record on immigration.

Immigration is the only “flaw” anyone can find in him. He has changed his stand on that. However, most folks on FR don’t believe a person can “repent” and “forgiveness and mercy” are two words not in most FReepers vocabulary. One mistake and they write you off. So glad they’re not God.

Rubio isn’t repenting on immigration. He’s trying to take “credit” for killing the Gang of 8 bill. And that’s after moving the football 99 yards down the field and knee capping conservative opposition to the bill.

He also supports fast track on TPP/TiSA/T-TIP, that along with his gang of 8 involvement should make him unacceptable to conservatives.

Don’t forget his urging of Congress to surrender on the DHS fight over Obamacare funding.
