Florida Sen. Marco Rubio appears to be giving Hillary Clinton the best competition among Republican presidential contenders in his home state and in Pennsylvania, in the latest Quinnipiac University poll of swing states released Wednesday.
In a set of hypothetical 2016 matchups, Rubio draws closest to overtaking Clinton in two of the three states, including Florida and Pennsylvania. In Ohio, Gov. John Kasich prevails in a head-to-head matchup.
By a count of 47 percent to 44 percent, Sunshine State voters said that they would support Clinton over Rubio in a hypothetical presidential matchup. Just 42 percent backed Jeb Bush, compared with 46 percent for Clinton in that hypothetical matchup, with both responses within the margin of error.
By varying margins, voters in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania back Clinton over Bush, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. Its not all rosy for Clinton, however. At the same time, by margins of eight to 14 percentage points, voters say that Clinton is not trustworthy.
This is where Democrats almost always fare better than Republicans. Yet in this survey many Republican candidates do as well or better than does she, said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac Poll.
The worst news for Clinton in this poll comes from Ohio, where she trailed Kasich 47 percent to 40 percent and split with Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, at 43 percent each. Clinton also grabbed 42 percent, compared with Bushs 41 percent, well within the margin of error.

Please explain this Marco Rubio thing to me, taking into account that I’m a middle-aged white man.
The empty suit vs. the empty pantsuit.
I won’t vote for Rubio.
People should check out his FL record to see his true colors.
Rubio will be the V.P. Nominee.
so, in effect you have presented your self as a hillary troll
Florida I understand, but in these other states I don’t see how he even has the name rec. immigration aside I am a big Rubio fan. He’s great on the stump. very natural and very charismatic. He also exudes conservative American thinking in his dialogue. He totally did it in for me with his cheap sales job on immigration. I don’t hate the guy but I no longer trust him. I will say, unlike Bush, I would enthusiastically vote for him in November. He’s with us on nearly every issue and can advocate conservative positions. Miles better than Clinton.
He is good looking so more women will vote for him. I think it is all that superficial. The dynamics will change once we really get into campaigning and debating issues. I believe Michele Bacnmann was the front runner at this point 4 years ago if memory serves me.
Rubio is the GOP Obama. Young, charismatic, full of BS, for sale, etc. If Jebcito falters the big money will go all in with Rubio because they know he will give them what they want.
I do not believe MSM polls for a minute.
The left wants Bush or Walker or Rubio because Hillary will crush them. They fear Ted because they know he would win in a landslide.
Rubio is a little chattering squirrel who can’t find his nuts.
Because I won’t support an amnesty loving turd like Rubio?
Ha ha...good one Berto.
I thought his speech with the water bottle was awesome!
Seriously most any conservative who lived in FL and followed state politics, abhors this guy. He will say or do anything for political expediency. When he catches a political wind, that’s where he goes.
The only thing he seems to be consistent in is favoring illegals over citizens. That record goes well into his FL legislature days.
Nice of Polutico-Gass to write an article informing everybody who they want for the GOP nominee, and for whom they'd vote for if, which they are not, they were Republican.
If only it were not for the gang of 8.
Not my guy but will definitely vote for him in the general and in the Florida primary if Bush is still in by that time.
The Democrats are scared of Rubio on so many counts. I personally think other cant beat Hildebeast but not Bush.
The RATS will go after him from the CONSERVATVE side. Even if they are for it!
Amnesty, Common core, donations to the Clinton Crime Family and so on. They will use Bush’s own words to keep conservatives off balance and stay home...
Correct. Keep in mind tho that there are a lot of Paulistas floating around. Rubio is Hispanic and Catholic...that will make their heads explode!
Why else would the NY Slimes be working triple-overtime to try and find dirt on him?
I hate RINO Rubio, but the mere thought of the klintons infesting The White House again makes me wretch!
I don’t agree with that at all. Having dealt with his offices on a couple things, they are stalwart on several key conservative ideas. I don’t have any experience with him in the FL statehouse, but as a Senator, he’s been on the lead on many issues. I don’t doubt his ambition. He wouldn’t be running if it wasn’t through the roof.
I also challenge ‘any conservatives’ in Florida know who is dating back to the state house. In 2010, he captured the tea party ideals before the movement grew, and a lot of conservatives were all in. Many, including me, added a lot of distance after his immigration debacle in the Senate and for good reason. He sucks on that issue. He wasn’t good on the issue from day one, but his flim-flam sales job to conservatives was a disastrous effort. On that one item, he’s no better than Bush. On most conservative issues, he’s one of our best champions, whether it’s on the Senate floor, on TV or on the stump.
